Well it’s funny you mention that… because on paper his DPS would only be high if he were sat in front of a junkrat trapped and hacked enemy, close enough to make it so he doesn’t miss.
If he had damage like other heroes, such as the reward for hitting headshots and a tighter spread for rewarding aim, he would be viable as a stationary DPS.
It’s a crux of the formerly “Defense” heroes (before they merged it all into “Damage”) and Bastion is the worst offender of it.
Torb has been significantly reworked. Symmetra has as well. Junk has gotten adjustments (like two mines). None of them are S tier picks still by any means, but they are usable.
Bastion is just still kinda… sitting there with the concept of a defensive hero that people will just run at for some reason? No idea.
I know… He tried healing himself, but I literally just stood on top of him and pew-pewed him to death my little pez dispenser. I didn’t even cry. What am I becoming…?
I die to Baby D.Va a lot… getting up and running doesn’t work because I lose Ironclad. Sitting there and trying to heal or shoot doesn’t work because I’m immobile. She’s scary…
I’ve heard people say this before, and in the context of Bastion it makes sense, but in my experience on both ends of the bunny blaster, Baby D.Vas are more frightened of you than you are of them. Of course, some of them just give up…
They honestly should buff Baby D.Va, or just D.Va in general.
After they buff Bastion.
And Pharah…
And rework Sym…
Maybe do something with Roadhog…
Sigma and Orisa could use some love…
Mei’s okay right now but she’s kinda close to the edge…
Not really qualified to comment on Genji…
But definitely Winston…
Maybe Torb if they do it right…
Brigitte could be better…
I’m divided on Moira…
But I’ll hear arguments for Mercy…
Need to look at Baptiste again…
McCree’s good now but that’s more the environment…
Sombra might be due for something…
Need to be careful with Doomfist…
Same with Wrecking Ball…
Reaper feels a little clunky…
Soldier’s just kinda there…
Think we should talk more about Junkrat…
And can’t forget Zenyatta…
Ashe could be improved…
Hanzo could use a tune-up…
Tracer’s good until she isn’t…
Widowmaker’s kit is kinda basic…
And we need to make sure Echo doesn’t wind up DoA…
Due to the nature of Bastion’s kit, people are going to die to one if they walk directly into it. People are just going to have to learn if we want for Bastion to be viable.
This would be the dream, wouldn’t it? Unfortunately if one person isn’t playing as a team, it discourages team play for everybody else, hence why people want buffs for team-reliant heroes like Sombra, and nerfs for ones that have the advantage in duels, like Moira. But do that and you’d take away a lot of what makes certain heroes unique, and what distinguishes Overwatch to begin with.
god I want it back please. It was the only major mechanically skillful thing Bastion had. Now its gone. I would love if Tank ult was better.
I like his transformation kit, so I like his ultimate, but it’s just soooo slowowwww and sooo baddddd. It can one shot but its a slow moving projectile (compared to all other projectiles in the game) and it drops off from 205 direct to at best 145 splash.
Maybe Bastion should be reworked into a hitscan tank
It would be useful in the scenarios where your dps hitscans can’t deal with pharahs / Genjis what not or refuse to switch off their projectile heroes
Hammond and Dva (fall off too much though) are the only hitscan tanks at the moment but provides no shield for the team against Pharah (at least dva has Matrix) and Hammond’s value comes from disrupting with CC…

Would suggest Bastion to have (if it’s reworked into a tank)…
200HP + 200/ 250 Armour (+/-)
Retain Recon mode’s rifle of 35 ammo
-remove/ tighten spread and increase max fall off damage (retaining more damage across map) but adjust the damage per shot slightly (similar to Hammond’s level but with more dps and less spread).
Sentry mode remains immobile but grants an Orisa-esque half dome shield
-sets up facing where the crosshair is pointed when transformation is initiated, locked into position. (sentry mode is able to turn 360 after without abusing it like a Reinhardt shield)
-to reset shield positioning, one has to transform in and out to where the crosshair is pointed as per above. Shield HP/ Shield Regeneration/ Transformation speed rate adjusted accordingly
Sentry mode damage per bullet from 7.5 - 15 reduced to 3 ~ 3.5 (+/-) with x2 headshot multiplier enabled
-remove/ tighten spread and increase max fall off damage (retaining more damage across map). Rewards mechanically enabled players to have impactful damage while not being obscene for those whom can’t track heads.
-Damage, Ammo count. headshot multiplier adjusted accordingly because damage buff exist (less damage but more ammo etc)
Self-Repair on right click replaced with single shot of Tank mode’s cannon -Does 50+/- damage, retains the exact same traits of speed/ splash but has slight knock back; suggesting 8~10sec for the cool down, usable in any form.
-Could be used to peel flankers
-Damage, cool down time, knock back adjusted accordingly.
-MAYBE, the animation + cast time could be a tank barrel popping out from the top of the player’s HUD in Recon and Barrel swap in Sentry
Tank mode transformation ultimate removed and replaced with AOE 15% team damage reduction buff + slight speed buff, usable in both modes and last about as long as Brig’s rally -Encourages the team to push together or bunk down together -Damage reduction, speed buffs adjusted accordingly so that it doesn’t stack to obscene levels with nano boost/ brig rally etc
It would honestly make Bastion’s purpose and playstyle more rewarding considering it will be a hybrid Main/ Off tank in different modes whilst further increasing the number of tanks : dps with a hitscan primary (inb4 Mauga in overwatch 2?).
Granted, pairing it with Orisa/ Dva or any double barrier would be unimaginable levels of annoyance (hence self heal is removed), one could only look to tweak the numerical values of the stats (damage, ammo but retain rof and max fall off at least).
Or they could just ignore what I took a few minutes to write entirely and just swap the Ironclad passive to be applicable in Recon instead of Sentry mode and add 50 more armour idk
I mean… While bastion does require help, fortifying his dps + being able to hs in sentry is a lot if the base damage isn’t reduced (rof + hitscan at 150 ammo seems like a better orisa by a long shot with personal shield to where it faces)
It would mean he’s impervious to the people he’s facing directly with old brig’s level of shielding and enhanced dps; when placed in a bunker setting considering factors such as double barriers, immortality field of baptiste and having a torb + turret etc, he would become an instant must pick on defensive 2 cps and Paris on first point of defense would be …
Would probably require a Dva with matrix to hard dive him with the team tbh
I wouldn’t mind having his tank configuration usable out of ultimate (at reduced dps) but overclocked doesn’t seem feasible in the sense that you’re going up against super saiyan Bastion when other forms of damage boosting exist in the current game (mercy dmg boost, Nano, Orisa’s supercharger, Amp Matrix, Zen discord etc)
I know he’s quite a troll pick now but if they were to buff him in such factors Dva would once again become a solid must pick as a tank to eat all the shells or one has to play out of LOS… Lower elos would be unable to handle that level of pirate ship and Bastion could be potentially gutted further to require more teamwork like how Orisa and Sigma doesn’t work as well individually as shield tanks now
Well, at least that’s how I observe the ow team’s balancing decisions…
When ammo is infinite it means you have zero downtime, and is actually very important when talking about a hero that can be constantly poked prodded and slapped until it either moves or fights.
