I have been playing since 2016. I am speaking from my personal experience with queues. My queue times in OW1 only started elongating beyond a couple minutes after the game entered the life support period.
Then he could just say, “the future is undecided, we’re keeping our options open.”
I am as well. I’ve been playing since the very beginning and I am telling you that things started changing actually before role queue was ever implemented. It got really bad even before Echo. By the time we were on life support things had actually been bad for years.
Was the 6v6 discussion even completely necessary? Aaron more or less addressed the issue in the interview anyways. Overwatch has ALWAYS had a tank problem no matter the state the role has been in - simply not enough people want to queue as tank. What would be the point in bringing back 6v6? It’d just make for horribly long queue times again (and this is all coming from someone who generally preferred the 6v6 gameplay)
Because of how broken and OP support was and still is. The tank heroes or the 6v6 format wasn’t the issue whatsoever. People who think it was, never really played OW1.
The queue times didn’t change much with the 5v5 format either, so what does that tell us? It tells us that 6v6 as a format wasn’t the issue, and right now, balance is far worse than it ever was in OW1 because of the power creep they keep adding to the game instead of fixing the glaring issues.
Then there’s also the fact that the majority of heroes are still tuned for the 6v6 format, tanks in particular.
