A list of thing RQ messed up

  • You cannot flex within a game, which punishes flex players and rewards one tricking. This also increases toxicity because you will blame your teammates for causing you to lose by being countered and not being able to stop it.
  • You are stuck with 2-2-2 (or 1-2-2) no matter what. This kills creative gameplay and limits your number of possible strategies. It also means that every game will feel exactly the same.
  • You are no longer rewarded for staying in a queue for the next match. If you want to change “roles”, you now have to manually quit a match, then queue into the role you want to change to.
  • If any person in your group ever wants to change roles, you have to manually quit the match you are in and requeue. This punishes you for being in a group.
  • If you choose the most popular (aka the most fun) role, you are punished with a long wait time. This also punishes you for being in a group if anybody in the group picks that role. This also causes DPS players to play Support and Tank roles as if they were DPS to avoid wait times.
  • Balance changes are now centered around 2-2-2 (or 1-2-2), meaning some heroes have to be nerfed and others buffed to fit only this playstyle, instead of balancing around fun gameplay. This also limits the synergy between heroes, since you will never have more than 2 of any “role”.

Did I miss any?

First and foremost: play open queue. It does exist.

Now, I mean…you’re not wrong, but you repeat the same thing a lot to pad out your list.

“You have to manually quit to change roles!” “You have to manually quit if your friend wants to change roles!” That’s the same thing.

“You can’t flex!” “You can’t play every role in a flex format so you have to pick a new role for the next match if you want to!”

I personally think that there are a lot of problems with open queue.

This sums up my problems pretty well.

Again though, just…play open queue. It is an option I promise.

I do play Open Queue, and I’m listing reasons why it’s better than Role Queue.

You forgot to mention that OQ is still in the game.

Good

So queue for more than one role? When we 5 stack everyone queues flex.

Queue times are worth not playing Open Queue. For those who disagree, they can play Open Queue.

Good. This is fun gameplay.

Well I’d be happy to try a 5v5 mode with no role queue, and with role switching, but with

  • 1 Tank maximum per team
  • 5 DPS maximum per team
  • 2 Healer maximum per team

You’d get all the queue time benefits, and most of the flexibility, but without excessive Defence Stacking.

LMAO.

What inevitably will happen is players that want DPS will get forced on Tank and Support, rage quit or throw and then folks will stop queuing all-together.

Oh well, low ELO will behave like low ELO.

Still better than grinding the overall gameplay style to a halt with excessive Defence, or high queue times.

No option is perfect. So it’s a matter of choosing what downsides are preferable.

And acting like any option doesn’t have downsides, is either oblivious or dishonest.

RQ should have been for competitive mode only. Expanding it to QP ruined the game.

I don’t know why you’re posting pictures of 2-2-2 comps like it’s some kind of gotcha. Many of us have played before role queue and been in the same situation as the meme I posted. Even today, there are far more DPS players than supports or tanks as evidenced by the queue times.

True, and this one is horrible.

“Who has the fastest ping and can lock DPS the fastest?”

No thanks. I want players on my team who want to fulfill their role.

I came up with a pretty comprehensive list a few months ago. I think I even left a couple problems out.

Literally everybody on the team could lock in DPS.

That said, I’m mostly looking at this as a solution for Quickplay.

So that it’s actually Quick.

Comp, that should be Role Queue.

And what will happen is other teams will actually play 1/2/2, stomp the 5 DPS and everyone will whine how OP tanks and supports are, so they’ll continue to get nerfed into the ground and nobody will queue or play with them in mind.

Overwatch is headed in a direction where everyone will just become DPS.

I still maintain that RQ by itself isnt very problematic…it’s just automated LFG….222 is the larger issue

Anyway That’s just the list of things it messed up….

You could also add a list of things it didn’t do…

  • improve balance - still a “mess”
  • make people any more likely to play tank/support - many just queue for the priority passes now (match quality)
  • improve matchmaking - role SR…but still can’t get you a “good” game

It’s only real accomplishments are you now can pick your role (again LFG did that)….AND you wait forever to play….for a marginally better experience because most of the reasons for the change were based on exaggerations and huperbole

You say that like it’s a problem for a game based off of Team Fortess 2, that’s looking to pull in players from Valorant and Apex.

We definitely need to prevent that 6 DPS per team in 5v5.

I mean, I would prefer to just write it more simply, but then people start getting the wrong idea.
