As many may be aware, there’s a lot of toxicity whenever “Mercy pocketing a Widow” becomes meta at high ELO.
But I think I just figured out a fix.
And it’s even Lore accurate.
WIDOWMAKER
Passive: Widow’s Curse
All healing received is reduced by 50%.
The antiheal debuff is purple. She is purple. It fits.
And then this makes it so Widow vs Sombra doesn’t need to be so harsh.
And high ELO doesn’t have panic attacks every time Mercy gets a small buff.
It also cuts into Widow’s regen, and healthpack usage. Where if she’s gonna have a “get out of jail free” grapple option. Then at least give her more downtime.
This just makes it impossible for a support to help their Widow. DPS passive plus “Widow’s Curse” leads to Widow having 70% reduced healing. She dies the moment anything breathes on her unless the player is capable of 180 or 360 headshotting, which makes the pocket irrelevant anyway.
Not in a meaningful way that makes rez an ultimate - aka an acutal investment that can not be used coz someone got diffed the first second of the game - and addresses the pocketing issue. Playing with dmg boost is low-key amazing thou coz it feels like the whole mitigation, sustain and healing overall is tuned to that dmg level. Which on the contrary makes playing without dmg boost as dps makes the game feel crappy.
What is up with these forums and people being illiterate now days? have you never read a dictionary?
Do I need to put “meaningful” in a super detailed context or what?
What is there to change? The hero functions properly and is not the cause of anything problematic. Has tons of counter playstyles and is one of few heroes able to bypass over tuned support abilities that are sometimes even horribly designed.
Who would have guessed that the best support for pocketing ranged hitscans shows up when it’s effective to pocket ranged hitscans? This is incredible. Next you’ll be telling me that Lucio is the constant variable in a speedboost comp, better redesign him too.
Of course if Mercy was really that good at breaking whoever she pockets, she’d be in every single meta, breaking whichever hero is the strongest. But funny it doesn’t work like that. She only shows up when a particular type of DPS is overtuned. Kind of like how every niche hero only becomes meta when their synergies are strong.
It was yes, but was the iteration successful and appreciated? Moth was not a great success that is for sure and it mate rez a non ultimate as well.
Regardless cba even trying to have any discussion related to mercy on these forums coz people clearly can not handle any criticism coming her way or suggestions for improvement that would move her away from her toxic position in the game. Heck so many are to petty to even admit her pocketing is a large issue for ladder play and the influx of hero unbalance. Effecting too many variables and break points without proper punishment or drawbacks. On top of the rez - again the oopsie button - always being available from the get go and almost every team fight. If drawn out fights basically every fight.
