Worst matchmaking in all games

I’ve been playing this game since alpha, multiple accounts, multiple ranks.

Ever since they dropped Hero/Team league the MMR is the worst I’ve experienced in all games.
I have reported players many times and yet nothing has changed. I still get healers and tanks who want to solo camps in platinum, still getting diamond players who have no idea what soaking is. Gold players who play better than diamond players is a sign that your MMR system is bad. I don’t know who designed it, but clearly it was someone who has never played a game in his life thinking that a player who hasn’t grasped the basics of the game deserve diamond/platinum.

Microsoft, please get on this asap and this game could be revived. All my friends quit due to the MMR system.
I used to be rank 1 in HL now I can’t get past diamond, and not cuz I need to get good, but cuz the team just refuses to cooperate/fail miserably at their tasks/don’t understand their roles/feed. It’s unavoidable to have this kind of players but introduce a system where you share tips at the end of the game on how they can improve or if you see that 6 out of 10 games in platinum he fails, send him to gold.

Also, the punishments should be more severe, there’s no real punishment for feeding or going afk or doing anything you’re not supposed to do while in a 20 minute game.
I’d rather have toxic people cursing and such in a game, calling eachother noobs or yo momma jokes BUT that actually know how to hit their skillshots, get map objectives (there’s a timer for each objective, there’s an announcement as well, and people still fail to play the map) or play the game the way it was designed to be played.

Also, 3+ ppl premade should be matched at least with the same thing, many times I run into 3-4 ppl premade while my team is full of ppl in losers queue.
This is not how you advance in any sports. Feels like a professional football team vs my 11 kids from the block playing football (or soccer if you are from the US i guess).

My main complaint is not getting matched with similar skill players, cuz the way you estimate the skill is wrong. There should be no platinum/diamond/master players who flex 2k+ games and still don’t understand that there’s a tribute up and all of the other team is not visible on the map and still fail to show up despite pinging for help/movement and so on. This means they either don’t care about it (bronze skills) or they don’t wanna come - refuse to play the game.

I play on EU servers, so I assume there’s also a language barrier, ideally you could sort the ranks so that ppl get matched with players who actually understand the language we’re speaking, at least until u get to master level where language would not mean anything (IN THEORY).

I currently play in high plat and high gold and ppl are not responsive to any means of communication. This is VS AI farmers mentality, where they don’t even understand this is a team game, so send them to bronze and put them a hint on the screen each game: REMEMBER KIDS WORKING TOGETHER IN A 5V5 TEAM MIGHT GET U BETTER RESULTS.

I’m tired of breaking keyboards each season cuz of your matchmaking system, so fix it please.

Before you start saying that I should carry the game by myself, believe me, I tried multiple times. Unfortunately this is not a 1v1 game, cuz I’m master+ at those ones, but this is a team game where whether we like it or not we’re dependent on what the other teammates are doing. Yeah you can 1v2, but u can’t 1v5.

Don’t worry, even GMs have problems at carrying people.

Either 5 men team work or GG. Nothing else.

Well if the dmg dealers refuse to do it who gonna do it then ? Also what stops you from helping them ?

Busy ARAMing mid lane.

if the damage dealers refuse to do it, you can skip it momentarily till the damage dealers wake up from their snooze. Not having the healer and tank in lane soaking or assisting the damage dealers results in:

  1. high risk of getting ganked by 3 ppl from the opposing team;
  2. low efficiency time-wise at getting the camps done.

I mean all u have to do is write “do camps pls” as a healer or tank and ppl will listen. If you just go by yourself cuz u feel like it’s time to do the camps u take out the two most important roles from a fight.

I always help/ do them myself. And if I tank I ask them to do it saying I’ll soak, u go.
I don’t heal, i suck at it, it’s my weakness.

Dude, this post is great. This is how I also feel in gold and plat. Can’t get out of it no matter what I do  There is always someone who is doing what they are not supposed to do. And I am stuck here forever

I disagree at least when it goes for reghar or stukov … doesn’t take long to do mercenary camps.

So it is always a question how much value you get and which risks you take…

Think of those scenarios… damage dealers dont listen to your pings and keep brawling midlane. Meanwhile one enemy solo laner is pushing. I wont hesitate to go soaking as healer. I will ping my team so that they know. I will also ping my team if I go for a camp as stukov so thwy know to be more careful.

Ganks happen anyways. I can stay in mid brawling meanwhile our solo laner gets ganked. I think as healer you should not motivate your team to just continue brawling non stop by staying with them.

I feel relieved that I am not the only one, who struggle to carry 5 to 30 kill/death ratio.

Not only damage dealers, but none is listening to my pings that’s why I am tired to do it, but usually just pick bruiser or any hero with wave/camp clear. Most of the time I do brain afk dual soaking until I see some gank options. :joy:

If you can’t climb, then you’re at the rank equivalent to your skill level.

You can complain about your teammates all you want, while ignoring the fact that the opposing side has the same type of players that you’re claiming is preventing you from climbing.

I find that there’s a weird… misconception, that some people have, who have the idea that “Because they’re trying and because they want to win, then they should climb to higher ranks.”

Ignoring the simple truth that effort doesn’t always equal results. If that were true, there’d be thousand upon thousands of grandmasters everywhere.

Not to mention dozens of other issues a player could have that is interfering with their ability to win games consistently.

True but it’s still undeniable that teamwork can mitigate skill to some extent, which means if both teams are clueless the team with more teamplay will most likely stomp the other. That’s the result we see why most games (at least in my experience) are mostly stomps for both sides.

Even in high competitive games like we see in Khaldor TV I see a good amount of one sided stomps, which is crazy. Another factor is probably that the snowball effect is higher than the comeback.

Edit:

Agreed. Overconfidence is a main factor to throw games.

The MMR system does not work like this though. The system only compares the “skill” of players and rank them from 1 to last. But the system does not give a “mark” on an absolute reference of “skill”.

@Yusuke
I guess that “teamwork” is also an important “skill” then in the context of HotS? Sure it is not easy to measure, contrarily to percentage of skillshot aimed correctly for instance, and it may be the reason why you don’t include it in the skill set of HotS (at least as I understand your message).

Can you elaborate?

I don’t understand the point you’re trying to make.

The team with most teamwork will be more likely to win if both teams are clueless?

Seems kinda like pointing out the obvious.

Wouldn’t that be the case regardless of whether the teams are clueless?

But that doesn’t change an individuals ability to impact the game or how teamwork is also an individual skill (can you work with your team or can you make your team work with you?). And the opposite is true as well that there are people who negatively impact teamwork with stupid commentary, flaming, excessive pinging or just bad decisions/calls or someone who keeps doing the wrong thing and getting their team killed for it, etc.

List of said games? Pokémon Unite surely has a worse MM.
Also this “award” is community-given to every multigame ever.

And this is what I tried to point out that just sticking together has way more influence than individual skill. That’s the reason why a lot of player feel the hate towards Hots’ matchmaking, including players like Tooton.

edit:

How is PU’s MM worse? Isn’t it about the same?

?
Even together, individual skill shines. Knowing when to stick together is also skill.
And ppl can be super effective and helpful even if they don’t stick together. Like that’s Tlv basically.
So getting camps, pushing, aggro the enemy, dualing. Dominating the sololane.

Like isn’t this not sticking together? Or is this your “don’t, not working” approach? Because I guessed this gives you results.

I don’t know the algorithm for either. But PU is slower in weeding. It also doesn’t give me the feel of skill brackets.
I have 62%+ wr in it after 220+ matches and I face and have the same noobs I did when I started.

But only, if my team doesn’t fail too much. I’ve encounted more than enough matches, where I dominated my lane and rotated, but we still fall behind and lost.

But don’t you face around the same amount of matches where you stick together and yet still lose? Or when you lose because of the laner?

Sure, but it’s way less than the other case.

Did you quote the wrong part?

I’m talking about the misconception people have that they are always supposed to climb “if they are trying to climb” as if everyone is supposed to get significantly better as long as they keep playing, and you’re talking about the matchmaker and MMR…?

But always sticking together is also bad. Split pushing, doing mercs or clearing enemy mercs, doing a quick lane-soak, etc, are all important. This is a type of skill of knowing when you can do what and how much time you got and when to call it quits and return to your team.
Efficient time management is extremely important.
And individual skill is still just as important when sticking together. More so than in a 1v1 as there’s more things going on.

No, they hate the matchmaker because blaming the matchmaker for everything is the easiest.

Yes, but still the reward feels higher than it feels to be right. To make it more clear what I mean just explain how do you understand this comment?:
