I am a Warcraf III and Diablo II player, so I like dota2 and this game is the better version of dota2. I do love Diablo II it is one of my favorite games, so I googled Mephisto and come to find that there are two of. One of the two is the one from the game itself and the other one from HOTS witch looks…well not like in the game Diablo II. I was wondering why blizzard has gone with this version of Mephisto for HOTS as it does not look the same as in the game Diablo. I’m no sure if your trying to pg 13 it or what but people tell me Mephisto in HOTS is cute.
For one thing, this topic doesn’t seem to be a suggestion, so IMO it’s more fit for the General Discusion forum, and it has already been talked about over there a few times.
The gist of it is that the HotS team wanted to make a version of Mephisto that’s somewhere in-between the one seen in D2 and the one from D3 (which yes, is different), while also fitting better with the “unified” aesthetic of HotS.
The “lore-wise” reason why he looks different would be because the one in D2 is not only Meph, but also the human he was possessing (Zankekur, I think?).
Of course, that wouldn’t explain why it’s different between HotS and D3 (as one would assume the one in D3 is just Meph without any human body).
Others have assumed the same as you: it’s probably to make it more “PG-13” (D2 version is too flesh-and-gore-y, and D3 version is probably too skeleton-y).
Lastly, I’ll point out that the 2D art for the HotS version of Mephisto looke really cool IMO, but it doesn’t seem to have translated that well to a 3D model, for some reason (though I can’t quite put my finger on why).
