I was replying on this post about camera lock and was thinking of ways to play. It doesn’t happen to often (anymore) but sometimes when I’m retreating/attacking I accidently right click on the minimap and change direction.
Now I was thinking about turning on the “Smart commands through minimap” option. Now my only issue is I actually use it quite a bit for moving around the map. IE when I’m doublesoaking I mount and shift click the minimap location so I instantly start moving toward my location. I guess I would have to get used to Left click, Shift Right click, Space bar to do what I do now.
Infinitely better just take the plunge. Training your fingers to right left shift is easy and won’t get you embarrassingly killed quite as often as a mini map ping move death.
Edit: I don’t think I’ve clicked the minimap while running away in a while. I actually tried it today and lasted about half a match. I didn’t realise how much I actually right click the minimap. It’ll take a while to use it.
I’ve thought about this as well. What I think would be a good solution if they would implement it (not that they are really doing any real new development these days ) is this:
Since I believe that most of the time that you right-click in the lower right is to move to that part of the screen, the default should be that the click goes through the map and moves you to that part of the screen. For the more rare times that you want to move to that part of the map, you would Alt-right click at that point. Right-click or Alt-Right Click. Simple way to distinguish your intentions without needing to move the camera there and back.
I suppose if someone believed it was more common to use the map to move than move to the corner, map move could be the default, configurable via Options.
I’ve done enough indy game deving in UI to know that implementing something like that would be trivial. I know it won’t happen, but, alas, we can dream…
