Twin blade nerf wut?

“We notice twin blades has been overperforming. Even though varian sucks at the moment, we decided to nerf twinblades instead of buffing the other damage alternative, colossus smash”

-the dev team

Almost every single one of varian’s talents after level 10 are support talents and the support talents keep getting buffed. At least varian has managed to fulfil his fantasy of being a multiclass hero now, hes basically half a support, whose primary game impact comes from putting down the banner for his team (people complained that varian was low skill, blizz manages to dumb him down even more)

It’s only a bad talent in forum imagination. It has overperformed in every skill tier for years and outclassed both Taunt and Colossus Smash in win rate by a good 5-10%.

When the enemy has no good stuns or blinds against you, he is devastating with Twin Blades and Second wind, borderline unkillable even in 1v2 or 1v3 situations.

And it was also least popular, while Varian alone wasnt particulary popular himself. Least popular talent of unpopular hero.

If you’re interested, Varian was currently top tier in diamond+ ranked and his most dominanted build was Winblades, so the slight nerfs it received is fine.
And about the banners: almost everyone and their mother picked the armor, so the others got slightly buffed. At lvl 20, nothing changed.

Not really, even at the moment Twin Blades is the most popular pick, and also the highest win rate pick out of the 3.

https://heroesprofile.com/Global/Talents/?timeframe=2.48&role=&hero=Varian&game_type=sl&map=&league_tier=

It’s also not a league issue; If you filter by master+diamond it still has 7% higher win rate and 8% higher popularity than the other two options.

It is vastly overperforming Taunt and Colossus in all skill tiers. It gives him huge solo impact compared to being a Taunt bot who is at the mercy of his teammates to follow up.

They go winblades up till diamond? lol
how does it work? there is soooo much stun, slows n blinds now in game :open_mouth:

Well thats surprising, TB is garbage in M. Oh well, says a lot about current state of TL.

Let’s him also take camps quickly (including Boss), very hard or impossible to drive away 1v1 from shrines and beacons once he gets second wind, can even win some fights 1 versus 2.

I see Grand Master streamers taking Twin Blades. It’s just some sort of weird theorycrafting cliche that it’s “bad”. Maybe because people in low leagues only see bad TB varians?

TB varian is garbage against any team that knows how to deal with it.

That got nerfed? Lmao twinblades varian is like butcher, nerfed to cater to the bads.

If there is a winrate disparity between twinblades and the other 2 (smash and taunt), it’s not because twinblades is too strong. It’s because the other 2 sucks. Is it that hard for people on this forum to understand?

You obviously don’t really care about or like varian much. See the thing is it goes beyond balance. If they turned medivh into a main tank and buffed medivh you’d be pretty annoyed too even if new medivh had a 60% winrate, because playing main tank isn’t the reason a player picks medivh.

In the same vein, no varian player in the history of playing varian has ever said “I’m gonna pick this hero cos I enjoy putting banners down for my team” yea no.

So although varian already sucks at the moment, blizz keeps changing him by reducing his damage and buffing his support talents. Even if they buff the banner talents till varian has a 60% winrate, varian players are still not going to enjoy playing varian because if they wanted to play a support banner bot, they would have played a real healer/support instead

Blades is grossly overperforming in top mmr so I don’t see how its a trap talent… Deserved nerf

Twinblades up till Masters.
I won Masters games with Winblades as well.
Stuns are not that big of a problem usually, blinds aren’t that common and he’s an insane camptaker.

Ppl who think Twinblades is bad against compenent players are actually wrong.

Varian is among my most picked Heroes in ranked. I’m Master ranked with around 70% winrate as Varian iirc.

Fan thinks twinblades varian is tier C, and is overall a pretty bad hero. I guess Fan just doesn’t get competent opponents?

NotParadox thinks he’s S or A tier?

And a thing about tierlists, it’s personal and it’s more about which Hero is how safe or easy rather than them being trash or not.

Agreed, but dont ppl keep checking minimap , n go check boss if varian is missing?
I mean, i agree, im in bronze, n there, the first 3 bans = KT Varian Qhira.
But when playing in a party of 4 or 5, i ban guldan or jaina more, in teamfight centered objectives. coz we take up a few blinds n stuns, n some burst, n varian is out…

yes, if he plays well… but still, honestly, i didnt believe that a player like varian can work things out so high up the rank, the only thing he is gud at, is taking camps, n 1v1,… n 1v1 is not often, diamonds n masters r coordinated play, where follow ups happen, people dont brawl 1v1 against heroes who r super duelists. im kind of surprised here to be honest

no, tb varian in lower league isnt bad… hes OP …
but yes, most ppl who play him, just think tht hes superman with his self sustain n cant b kill… in coordinated play, TB varian is never a problem to face.
its the C-Smash tht hurts more.
But others play TB varian cautiously and they are just insane pain…
specially if tb varian is lucky to b coupled with 2 of these 3 = morales, aba, tassa…
he becomes an unstoppable force.

oh, i honestly thought tht after gold, TB varian was a hero no where to b seen in ranked, :open_mouth:

:open_mouth:
i wanna see some ur replays, tot see wht u doing up there in masters with a hero like varian n going TB n being so succesful

Really shows the mentality of some twinlol players.
Placing a banner once a minute being to much for their brain.
This is a team game not a faceroll right click mobile phone game…yet.

Winblades are strong for macro pressure. I had a ranked a few days ago where our Varian went Twinblades and was basically a waveclear and camptake bot. It worked fantastically and the pressure will put the enemy in a tight spot over time. Also keep in mind that TB Varian is incredibly hard to lane against in the mid-late game, e. .g if he pushes with one or two camps that he took.
In teamfights, he is not useless and pretty much all about engagements, à la Kerrigan and Butcher. Wait until enemy blew their blinds, go in an just hit whatever moves.

well true, in a coordinated play, he would force any mage to retreat, whoever he jumps on, ,this alone can change the fight
but still, LOL , its hard to picture
