I take a spin on this, you didn’t win because you were amazing as Old D.va, you won because the enemy was considerably worse. Yeah, sure. You mained D.va and had been pretty skilled with her but the point is to be really effective with Old D.va you had to outplay the enemy considerably.
Anyways, since people keep wondering why some say the playstyle of the Old D.va is gone here’s an example how I played her:
I picked Rush Down at level 1, 9 times out of 10. I didn’t think the other feats were bad but my particular playstyle was hanging on hypermobility. Why? Because I hardly stayed on one lane for long. I played as an off-tank. I kept rotating like mad and reinforced solo lanes, flanked and do things which the enemy can expect way less. Why again? Because if the enemy had a fair fight then I was kind of useless. I used Matrix to negate burst damage and had it frequently online. I usually put pressure on enemies via Defense Matrix and body blocking. Of course I also drew plenty of fire but since I always had Booster ready I was extremely hard to pin down. So I take a beating, drawing fire from more powerful damage dealers, boost to my healer, get back to the fight and repeat. I also frequently used mini boosts. These are tiny timed boosts where I cut off the boosters just before I receive damage. In the end my playstyle was very tank-like without having CC to outright disrupt them. I forced them into unfavorable positions, pressured backlines and also blocked incoming combo damages. I kept being an annoying presence which massively reduced the enemy team’s effectiveness.
New D.va? For starters she doesn’t have remotely as good mobility compared to before. Her Defense Matrix is also way weaker now while being online considerably less frequently. Her pilot form is also no longer a ranged AA hero without GG WP boosting her damage. Oh and her mech is way more valuable, you will suffer more from de-mech compared to before. In some fights with Old D.va you could have 3-4 mechs with ease. Or more annoyingly you had 2-3 ways to instantly get your mech back, none of these are in the reworked version anymore.
So yeah, D.va feels and plays way differently with the rework. She’s a proper bruiser now with some pretty interesting talents. It’s just the “unique” aspects which gave power for the Old D.va are also gone. I personally don’t mind this. I think the changes are overall giving us a much more fun D.va to play as.
…but for the love of God please change Stop&Pop. It’s a disgrace of a talent now.
