This is there chance

This is the chance for what is left of the dev team to try BIG changes. Nothing to lose at this point.

What BIG changes would you like to see besides the obvious getting rid of shared XP?

  1. Not getting rid of shared XP.
  2. Releasing popular heroes
  3. Fix matchmaking even though it’s an issue in literally every single MOBA game?

They can’t fix match making when there isn’t enough players to fix it. Every time they try to fix it people cry about queue times.

Releasing popular heroes will do nothing to save this game. That also isn’t a big change because they have been releasing "popular’ heroes forever. Just because you don’t like a hero doesn’t mean the community as a whole doesn’t. I think they have done a good job with hero releases.

The only way you can fix this game is to make it more competitive and reward players for their play more, and you can’t do that in game or in the MMR system without getting rid of shared XP… unless you want to force 5-man parties to be able to queue.

If they change the XP system it may push some of you scrubs out of the game but it would draw in way more players that actually enjoy this genre and understand it.

This isn’t going to happen. This game was designed around shared XP and it would require massive overhauls to every hero.

Please try to put some thought into what you’re saying.

It wouldn’t require massive over-hauls to every hero, and also… this game could really use some massive overhauls. Do you not agree?

“the game is designed around shared XP”

Seems to me the game was “designed” to fail.

You are majorly changing an aspect that the majority came to this game in the first place, this also effectively unbalances the game to the moon as a result.

This is my list, in order.

  1. Re-focus on the new player experience.
The best way to keep players to make sure it’s fun right off the bat. Without the HGC getting in the way, Blizzard can go back to ensuring characters are roughly fair across all skill levels. This should be the first priority.
  2. Release a big-name hero.
I’m talking Reinhardt or Deathwing, and pretty much no one else. Something that people have been clamoring for, to get some fresh blood or returning players. Even if it’s brief, if the game is more fun they might stay.
  3. Release a heavy-gimmick hero.
The second-most awesome thing is a crazy gimmick. Deathwing might be able to pull double time for this, depending on how well they make his kit. The double-whammy of cool content should secure plenty of people.

You can easily fit the two required heroes in a tight schedule and then some, just so long as it’s done clinically.

Yes it would - LoL/DOTA/Smite were all designed with certain heroes being carries and all that yadda yadda.

You clearly don’t know a thing about game design and how certain changes could drastically affect the current state.

We need overhauls. But these are not what we need. We need a better micro-bullcrap payment system. We need clans/guilds/communities.

What we don’t need is to make this game like other MOBAs because that’s why the majority of the player base are here for.

We may not agree on this. I would like to hear what ideas you have to make the game more popular to people who actually play this genre.

Explain to me please how you have to over-haul every hero. Show me some of that game design experience. I am not here to troll you or be a D***. Stop just dissenting and give me an example or some real ideas.

  1. Ban the feeders and griefers.

  2. Stop destroying the ranked ladder with OP money grab hero releases every 2 months.

  3. Faster rank movement.

And there you have, the game is competitive, again.

This is terrible logic. This is the same broken reasoning that destroyed The Old Republic, Rift, Elder Scrolls Online, and however many hundreds of “WoW-killers”. If you make a game just like the current top dog (League or DOTA in this case), people will just keep playing the game that they’re already invested in. You have to offer something that the competition isn’t, to attract people who don’t like the other games or are sick of them and want an alternative.

People don’t play HotS to play League. They play League to play League.

Looks like people aren’t playing HotS at all… Game is dying.

I am aware that getting rid of shared xp DRASTICALLY changes the current state… That’s exactly what it needs. If it keeps going like this it is going to end up literally and 100% dead and unsupported. Is that what you want? Do you want to hold on to the aspects of this game that are killing it just because that is what makes it different? I would like to continue playing this game and see it bounce back because I like the way the game feels and I love playing blizz heroes. It seems like you guys just want it to stay the same and want it to die.

You can have sweeping changes without removing the very core of the game. Not only is it a stupid thing to do because it imitates everybody else, but that would require a complete rewrite of the game. They don’t have the man power to do that anymore.

There are a lot of little things that can be changed to make a huge difference. Hero viability is one, match making is another. They have a lot to do with the draft stage as well. Some maps have objectives which are beyond broken. They need to go back to the drawing board and see what they messed up in the past 2 years and fix these issues.

Changing shared xp is barking at the wrong tree mate. The game has far more issues to deal with, which are completely unrelated to shared xp.

You are simply wrong about the reasons people play this game. Your arguments are anecdotes about the game dying, but you have absolutely no clue why. If you don’t like the game, it’s not for you. LoL still exists. Go play that.

What Heroes of the Storm needs is to re-focus on its essentials - quick, snappy gameplay with a high emphasis on teamwork and crazy gimmick heroes, wrapped in a nice beginner-friendly coating.

It’s been so long since we had a full-on “Whoa, MOBAs can do that?” type of hero (I’d argue the last one was Tracer). This is what separates it from the competition. We need more of that. Shared XP is a backbone to rest improbable gimmicks like Cho’Gall and Abathur off of.

I would love to see it changed to true MMR and not the current rank system.

Also, slow down with hero releases and start working on what we already have. Getting the balance and the pace of the game right is more important than anything tbh. Let’s hope a small and dedicated team can pull this off and save the game

You would be knocking down one of the core pillars that brought people to this game. This game isn’t dying because it isn’t more like League or Dota.

This game is dying for other reasons that has nothing to do with MOBAs.

This game is dying because of the silence we’ve received about MMR/matchmaking for almost the entire life cycle of this game.

This game is dying due to the lack of community support such as Guild UI.

Cause you know. Who the hell what’s to play with random people who can abuse the critical flawed report system?

Oh, let’s talk about how the report system which as been exposed by countless people taking screenshots… They were all banned/suspended from this forum and Reddit to talk about it and Blizzard made a new policy a few months ago to make it against CoC.

Seriously, this community has been asking for a simple addition like guild UI since the BETA and it would’ve really helped the growth and make this game solid.

But no. We got a worse punishment system that abused and Game Masters on a tyrannical rampage that makes people afraid to talk in games.

Good job, Blizzard.

This game is dying due to poor balancing. (Like every game lately. I dunno why. Guild Wars 2, WoW, Heroes of the Storm all just have crappy balance choices lately.)

Where half of the roster of heroes is negated due to this new design where base kits are overblown and talents are overblown.

Genji base kit ALONE would be half of what it was and all the neat gimmicks he has baseline would be level 16/20 talents 2 years ago.

It’s bullcrap. The power creep has left heroes like Illidan and Valla useless.

new players should get free hero for each class tank supp dmg mage

Pickng phase- there should be suggestion bar thing like in dota where u can see what your team needs the most
for example ur team missing cc ,wave clear, tank ,etc etc.
So new players at least know in what direction should go with pick.
little info box on front page hl what is meta win rate what hero is most ban’d most talent picked .
Some little tips taht will improve they game.

Report system - Can this game aford to lose players ?
And players refuse to communicate more than ever keep chat disabled so they can’t get banned

How about you give up down vote.
Up voted Players that promote good behavior you get special skins or more rewards,
and placed my game with same.
Playce players with good behaviors upovodet with new players more so they feel welcome not get introduced to toxic community right away
So people will pomovite good behavior to get rewards,
if they start being toxic they can lose the privilege.
Small praice to pay,and game clean itself from inside
Players that promote bad behavior get no rewards place with same toxic people until they improve.
If they extremely toxic make them chill for a 3 days week they can’t play game.

If they are toxic in to chat Just make them chat silenced for month week.
They can play all games but chat is disabled.
Or give them community work for example,
before play hl-they need play 5,10 games in QM as support as punishment it that will help fix the queue time.
if they get reported in those games they progress restarts.
And system its ez to exploit make reports limited.
so players will chose wisely how to use them.
i think ban is bad nobody wants to start this game over again,
and blizz lose source of income, players will give bad word for incoming players
make people give up not even want to try game .
Only thing worth a ban is hack and cheating

xp problem.
I think catapults are bad they push wave to the other side and lots of xp wining team lose and if you play a map like tomb of spider games are wasted.
Other mobas have items to balance things.
How about give better quest for assassins to make them late game monsters.
Or the bounty hunter quest activated if your team is 2 leaves behind, where you need to kill certain hero to get extra xp.

involve community in decision making
lets say blizz have idas how to rework heros
toss some examples how you plan to change hero, let people up, down vote them what they like to see.
what hero they like to see in nexus

Thanks for reading -ps sorry for bad English

Why would they ever get rid of shared xp?

Because that is the reason their MMR and match making system doesn’t work?

Here is an example:

You are playing a game, your team is playing against a team that seems to be really bad but there is one hero who has got a lot of XP and has a talent advantage and ends up wrecking your entire team. It seems OP. It doesn’t seem fair. Do you know what happens with that one player? He gets a higher win rate, a higher mmr and ends up in a bracket with other players who are also good at what they do. Eventually the MMR balances out and good players are playing with good players and bad players are playing with bad players.

In hots, that one player that may be able to carry, can’t, because XP is shared, he can’t get the advantage he would normally get in other MOBAs for playing well. It makes it extremely hard to rank up. That is the frustration many people have with this game over other MOBAS. People want this game to be DIFFERENT than other MOBAs but you can’t forget they are also competing in this genre.

Exactly. This is why Tera was so damn popular and only lost popularity when that started doing gender and race lock classes and people got tired of it and stop supporting the game and it’s been on the decline since then.

Tera was a great game - still is if you can stomach being a little anime furry that dresses skimpy to get all the cool classes.

A game failing doesn’t mean it’s failing because it’s a bad game and needs to be more like other similar games.

Games also fail due to poor management and business practices.

Which is why Blizzard is failing in WoW, Diablo, Starcraft, and HotS. And even Overwatch lately.
