Speaking another language

Hi,

I had a question regarding conduct and expectations, and report policy. Is it a reportable offense to speak any language other than English on English servers in team chat? Is such behavior in any way officially discouraged by Blizzard?

Thank you.

Whether the answer is Yes or No i couldn’t tell you.

But i just hope it isn’t a reportable offense to not speak a certain language.

If i had to take a guess i would say no based on the EU servers being common with both English and Russian speakers.

Why would it ever be considered a reportable offense. You have to use some serious mental gymnastics to get to the point where its “well they aren’t communicating with the team, thats reportable”.

Im pretty sure the “Not communicating with the team” report is put there to make people think that blizzard is actually doing something when they clearly dont and shouldnt care

Blizzards games are played in many countries around the world, and as far as I know they have never encouraged people to use any specific language, or had servers separating languages.

They have 3 regions currently available as options, and each of those 3 (Europe, Asia & Americas) they speak many different languages.

what language is the game in?
if a russian is coming in US, does he speak russian to americans?

every time there is a single guy typing in any language other that english, i am reporting this as abusive “non constructive and disturbing chat”. if he gets a reply in same language, then i do not.

No, it doesn’t, it shouldn’t, if it did then literally everyone on EU would be banned by now.

While there is no set in stone rule about this, I do hope that using a non major language of the server is a reportable behavior and be punished severely.

Once you’ve have decided to join a server, you should respect the main language being used there. Of course, this wouldn’t be an issue if you’re teaming up with your friend, you can use whatever language you want. Otherwise, it would be annoying and uncomfortable for your team. It’s no different than trolling.

Therefore, whenever I saw someone uses non English in the US East server, I always report them for non participation.

Absolutely not.
There are no “English” servers.

You make me think of those players I’ve met during World of Warcraft times constantly saying stuff like “This is a German server, we shouldnt be playing versus those (insert random nationality here).”

If youre playing on European servers, you have all kinds of nationalities.
If youre playing on American servers, you have all kinds of nationalities, because ta-da, all of America consists out of immigrants from all over the world.
If youre playing on Asian servers, well also duh, hundreds of languages.

You make yourself look crazy by merely voicing the thought of this.

Therefore, whenever I saw someone uses non English in the US East server, I always report them for non participation.

You guys are crazy. Multiple US-states are multi-lingual officially and even more dont even have an official language. Not to mention all the languages that are spoken in US inofficially. 50 million people in the US speak Spanish.
Jeez, you guys.

This is taking things to such an extreme position. People should never be silenced or banned for not speaking a particular language.

Considering it is not against the rules to disable text and voice chat, not speaking a particular language should not be a punishable offense.

If you can’t get a tank, healer, dps and 1 mage don’t play HL or TL and u should be reported.

If it’s not it should be. Speaking in a team game a language that your team mates don’t understand is not conductive to team building. Why would you ever want to speak anything other then english if that is the the language of the server? If you have a team mate that speaks another language, talk in tells. If the whole team speaks another language then it’s no problem.(but let’s be honest, that’s not what you are doing is it)

I don’t believe it ever was in this game or any of the other games of Blizzard that I’ve played.

How the hell is this even a point of discussion. Ofcourse it is not a reportable offence.

it is not and shouldnt be, for simple reasons,
right now i can have my game downloaded and play in many language not just English, french, German or other language i prefer to have my game in.

being in Canada we are commonly paired with US players, if i were to be a french only speaking player i would be in no obligation to learn an other language if the game is available to me in french.

lets take it back ward in this case, if i team up with my friends and we are 4 out 5 players speaking french and we are paired with a other player that is only English speaking, whether he is also from Canada or us , shouldnt we all be report that person for “non communication” ? on a 4 french 1 English, hes clearly the minority and he SHOULD be the one learning a new language to communicate is he not ?

however this makes me think of a funny situation ive noticed in real life many times too.
1 french person in a group of english : everyone speaks english
1 english person in a group of french : everyone speaks english lol

This goes to show that the French are sympathetic!

They aren’t “english” servers. It’s a North American Server. It’s a European Server. Neither of these regions are specifically English speaking.
