Should all heroes be free?

Hi guys one idea just popped in my head and it is about heroes.Should all of them be free like in DOTA 2.Speaking for myself i think that would be a good idea because then players can try all different heroes and not have to gring in order to play a specific hero.Feel free to discuss and share your opinions about the idea.

All heroes are free on a rotational basis. You’re welcome.

Yeah I already know that but i asked about the idea of all heroes being free when for example when a new player downloads hots he would have access to all heroes and heroes whou would come in the future

So, the DotA2 method? While I would be on board, you’d have to convince Blizzard that they’d benefit more from that in the long run. Good luck with that.

I feel like for a game that is having difficulty maintaining its player base, and a variety of heroes should be at least cheaper. The fewer barriers to entry the easier it is for someone to try out a smattering of characters and find one they like.

There have been multiple rotations of free hero weeks that I just don’t enjoy any of the free heroes on offer. IF I were a new player testing the game out for a week and I didn’t like any of those heroes, I don’t keep playing the game. Being able to try out more variety would potentially increase the liklihood that someone could find something they like.

Aside from that, most heroes are all 10k gold now. So even if someone found a rotational hero that they like, they might just give up when they see the price tag and consider it not worth the time.

I wouldn’t mind an option like SMITE where you can buy all the heroes and all future ones for 30 dollars. However, knowing blizzard, they wouldn’t even sell a third of it for that price. This is the company that has been selling mounts in wow for $25 for the past decade. You have to buy 20 dollars worth of gems just to get their starter hero bundle. Nearly $100.00 for the 30 hero bundle.

I also think that new players would benefit from having free heroes because they can try more of them and get the basics of each hero and not have to gring 10000 gold to play a specific hero

My issue is they’ve made every hero for quite awhile be “legendary”. It’s intentionally super expensive to buy most of the roster.

I would assume that is so they can charge people more if people are willing to spend real money on the heroes. I am sure developers want more accessibility while the investors want more and more money.

Yeah especially new players who just started to play the game so maybe it would attract new players and we surelly need them

I’d say yes, mostly because if a player were to play without paying a single dime and making sure to do all daily quests, it’ll take them 5 years to unlock them all with gold only. (If my math holds up.)

Free hero rotations was required to keep people playing and in hopes you will buy the hero with money. It works for the most part, but it feels cheap.

This game was designed for the long run with money being the priority.

Blizz needs to learn to make games that end, and move on to the next great thing. They also can’t have the Bean Counters dictate how games are designed.

I think it’s fine the way it is now. Every week you have like 10-12 (I don’t remember how much) free heroes you can play, which is a lot. You can also test any hero in try mode without having to buy them. For me it’s really fine.

I think the initial roster of heroes should have been free but unfortunately the entire hots money making model has been tied to forcing players to spend currency to access heroes as well as bottlenecking every new player through QM since day one of the beta.

I don’t think a blanket all heroes are free is likely. I’ve always hoped that players would get a limited 5-10 hero roster off the bat so they can immediately familiarize themselves with each role, I think it would help a lot of new players.

I would keep the unlock. It gives the feeling of progressing while playing.
On the other hand, I would significantly reduce the prices of a lot of heroes. Keep the super hard or super odd heroes at 10k, but reduce the normal ones to 4k and 2k. That way, new players can build up a roster of their liking faster and then slowly expand.

@Mumrah
5 years can’t be it. I played on and off and I own all heroes except 5. I only bought 3 heroes in bundles. Had I invested more time, I easily had the entire roster by now.

No because Blizzard need some $$$$$$

Constructive contribution.

i liked the idea of the starter bundles they had around the launch of 2.0. i mean, i guess they weren’t technically free, but everyone was given enough gems to purchase one so it’s close enough

nope. i believe they have enough gold gain in game to get whichever hero you may want through free means on a reasonable schedule. meanwhile, not long ago they made various changes to cosmetic payments too. so i dont believe this is really necessary.

if its a matter of ‘i want the hero now’ then pay up. thats where gems (real money) comes in. on the other hand if you can be patient and grind things out then you can get everything in game for free with time.

It’s a shame they removed those bundles though.

I’d give extra free Hero rotations with lvling up and would give a few Heroes away for free, but that’s it. I wouldn’t give away all or most Heroes for free.
