Request for a positive behavior Merit system - Ideas and suggestions please

Many of us have commented over the years that the report system is only focused on addressing negative in game behaviour. On these forums and the old I’ve seen many people request a Merit based system that would highlight and reward good behavior.

Not everyone will agree this is wanted or needed. If you do, what shape do you think it should take?

I’d personally like to see the MVP screen overhauled so all 10 people are displayed there, but not for awards like most damage or most heals. Change it so there is a pull down menu where you can give votes for something like “Excellent shot caller”, “Team Player”, “Never say Die”, “Supportive”…etc…

Votes from players in groups can’t count as it will be abused. I also don’t think people should get rewards for voting. Any rewards for doing this should perhaps be a very small amount of gold for receiving a merit vote.

The other thing I’d like to see is a summary of awards people have obtained listed in there profile.

Enough from me, please bring on the ideas! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

League already has a merit system and I don’t think anyone really cares about it

This is the main thing. I would also like to see rewards applied when it is someone on the enemy team who gives you a positive vote. There are times I have voted for an enemy, just because they were unbelievably good on the hero!

It would also be nice to have merit badges for specific heroes or roles, so when someone is hovering a healer, not only can I see win rates and stuff, but also how other people have seen them in that role.

I didn’t make that clear, I wasn’t suggesting that only an ally should get votes, enemies too. I often vote for an enemy player whose performance was impressive. I think anyone on the screen should be allowed to be voted for.

This is a great idea, a reward and encouragement but also has a practical application. Win rates are good, but when you see it backed up by feedback from other players that would inspire even more confidence.

*Sorry for making this thread twice and deleting, somehow I made the first a wiki and couldn’t change it.

How does their merit system work? Maybe people don’t care about it as it isn’t implemented in a manner to encourage engagement.

I want a friendliness rank on my portrait.

I would love to see a positive feedback system. You can add rewards but I do not think it is necessary. Add a section under your profile where you can view all the likes you have received. League of legends has a system.

Not to put down your idea, but this is basically how Overwatch’s merit system works. With it’s own level and MM system built in. You can choose the type of merit and to whom. Even enemies. You get a small amount of EXP for giving them out to players. You can do this long after the match was over. It will override who gets the merits if you enter a new match. I ranted that the MVP screen should be completely removed and just copy how Overwatch handles it.

I want to at least give you a :star: on your forehead for at least bringing this idea to the forefront as an opposition on how we just report players instead of giving them kudos. It’s a great point to bring up.

More ways to show how awesome things are.

No worries at all, I played Overwatch maybe 3 years ago when my partner was still alive. We just goofed around, I didn’t know they had this system there, it’s a fair point to bring up and thanks for letting me know.

Thanks Mumrah. I know we need some kind of reporting system, but maybe if we had something that was about positive reinforcement a few people would be less inclined to play the “false angry report mini game” and give out some good vibes instead.

Yeah, the endorsements were introduced around 2 years ago. According to OW wiki it was added June 2018. The main incentive is a small amount of exp but also introduces a sort of matching system. It’s kinda discrete and weird.

I agree. I wouldn’t miss the reporting system if it were completely removed. It would be a fun experiment.

The merit system is used to match players in games? If so I’m not sure that would work for HOTS, I don’t really like the sound of it.

That is okay, I thought maybe a small amount of gold would be better for HOTS, for sure not a loot chest.

It sure needs some fixes, as it is now I could live without it.

Valve has that system and it has a limit of how many you can commend a day (plus they can’t be on your friend list, must be randoms).

Commendation badges then show on your profile.

Seems nice in addition to just a ‘negative’ report function. As long as you couldn’t commend people in your party or friend list (for obvious reasons) I see no issues.

I approve.

I don’t think it should offer rewards like gold or shards but I think accolades on your profile would be sufficient enough.

Imagine getting into draft and you look at your team’s profiles and they have accolades for ‘friendliness’. At that point, you know at the very least that they won’t troll or rage quit. They might even boost morale.

Great idea !
As per the reward why not a mount after a big number of merits ? It can be a nice friendly mount, quit difficult to get and it will not give any advantages.

Sorry.

I looked in to it. It is purely a thing to show appreciation. Shot caller, good teammate, and sportsmanship. You have endorsement levels and it goes to a max of 5 as you get endorsements. When you level up, you get a loot box. Though as said before, you yourself get EXP for giving them out to players.

I’m sure with the amounts we get from different activities it should be around 5 gold each vote and some exp.

This video seems to delve into an underlying interaction that could be interesting to monitor.

Unless that “anyone” knows they can get free chests from it, and which point they start caring.

I always get commendations in LOL when I play good. So in fact, it is very successful.

Been to a forum with a “reputation” which was “a good behavior meter”. Mafia. Does not work. At all. And the report system is a way to channel your this minute hatred.
The real thing of a goodness measurement is a friendship invite.
But, I guess, there is a room for achievements giving some titles. Like “Dealt 50%+ team PvP dmg in a ranked match of 100500+”. Or “Made an EVIL DIRTINESS with Jaina Proudmoore in a 100500+ ranked match.” “Lefthandedly broke 100500 faces while alone with Fenix” would do good as well.

They should replace the MVP screen with the stat tab (even if it’s just as it is in game now it’ll be ok) and allow everybody to give an upvote and a downvote on who they want.

Voting should reward something like 5 gold or 1000 XP per vote (so you can get 10g and 2k XP on each match), just to push people to use it (as it is also in OW where you recieve a bit of XP for voting).

On top you could also add a reward system that gives you a free rare lootbox every 10 (?) upvote you recieve.

kek, Well I’d vote you for TL3, you contribute so much to the forums.

Interesting, I don’t play LOL so I have no idea how it works over there. A loot chest after x amount of commendations received would probably be okay.

This is my feeling too, though I guess some people want a tangible incentive to participate.

This seems like a good model. I agree that anyone on your friends list or party you should be prohibited to commend. I get annoyed enough that I can’t vote for a healer on my team that died zero times, got most damage, heals, kills and assists because Stukov gets “silencer”.
