Something was definitely changed in their matchmaking system as my friends and I notice we are grouped constantly with low KDA people regardless of win rate. The system prior would constantly hold an a player to a 50% win rate.
Blizzard was not able to implement a performance based matchmaking system like in other MOBAs. Meaning, your MMR is based upon how you do in the game. This is not in Hots at all. When they tried to implement it people would yolo stat pad to increase their MMR. They didn’t take KDA into consideration in their math. So they removed it and the game quickly died after they removed Esports funding at the same time.
How people, “pro’s” (laughing), and Streamers got around the MMR affecting ranked placement is they would create a character and full group QM to win their placement games getting them a platinum or diamond placement with a high MMR. However, you need to play continually in a full group otherwise the system worked hard grouping you with window lickers to pull your MMR down. We use to get grouped against the pro teams and they would run crazy tactics.
When you would queue up for a game the rules or matchmaking requirements actually widened making it easier for you to find a group every 5 minutes. I think it was reduced or even removed now from the game population being low.
Forced 50/50 win rate basically forces you to have to carry someone in a game where you really can’t. If you have one person throw the game it’s basically GG unless the comp is a complete mismatch. The system use to work harder if you were grouped too.
What I think happened is that there is a low population of people playing the game so they removed matchmaking restrictions. It would be nice if this information was conveyed to us in patch notes though.
ARAM WAS the most balanced system in the game. It didn’t follow traditional matchmaking and hero requirements but if they widened or removed the matchmaking rules then my fear is that isn’t even playable now too.
I wish they would re-work the game…
-Increase hero damage appropriately so you can carry slightly making performance based matchmaking work using KDA; deaths affect your MMR.
-Some healers definitely need healing increased as they are so weak early game, and maybe a complete re-work.
IMO it’s the best MOBA to play from a gameplay perspective. I hate shop systems, forced laning and watching people feed, unequal level systems, and some MOBAs are even 3rd person so you can not see where your abilities fully go (Smite).
