My game regularly gets stuck on “Preparing game data”. At times, it takes so long that I have to X out of that window and go to Task Manager to shut down the game via Windows in order to try again. Usually when I do that, I’m able to simply start the game again and proceed. But the problem became so annoying that I wanted to try to fix it. So, I went looking around the Web and found no good solutions for it. Instead, I deleted the game and re-installed. That worked for a a week or so, but now the problem has returned and today I couldn’t get rid of it even after shutting down my computer and restarting. It took 4 or 5 minutes for the process to finally complete and start the game. Any solutions?

Hey Jackwraith,
This may be caused by a bad cache issue, or possibly something configured weird with your connection settings. I would recommend trying this:
- Close the game and the Blizzard app completely. Wait about 1 minute.
- Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialogue.
- Type C:\ProgramData\ into the Open field and press Enter.
- Delete the Battle.net and Blizzard Entertainment folders.
- Run the Blizzard App and update the game to see if the issue persists.
If the problem comes back after that, try resetting the network settings in Windows 10:
Go to Start → Settings → Network & Internet → Network reset
Proceed with the prompts and restart the computer.
Hopefully that helps!
