New Tyreal Trait

I have a few ideas for a new trait that can both make Tyreal more tanky and feel like an Arch Angel of Justice:

1: When an enemy hero deals damage to you, they gain a ‘Retribution’ de-buff reducing their armor be 10(?) For every hero with the Retribution de-buff Tyreal gains 10 armor.

2: Whenever Tyreal takes damage he gains a damage boost.

3: Whenever Tyreal takes damage he gains a percentage of the damage as mana and his cooldowns are reduced.

The general idea is “You hit him he will repay the favor.” type thing.

I like number 3 and it makes sense woth his whole justice thing.

None of them fits. Heroes abilities/trait are based on their lore. In this case, Tyrael trait is based on his sacrifice from Diablo 3, where he left the High Heavens, becoming a mortal.

This is Heroes of the Storm, not League of Legends. Here it’s all about lore.

Leave it how is it.

Have you ever considered you can do both? Or do you think that all the designs in the game were heavenly ordained upon the mind of the devs and it just happened to chance into coherent designs?

The struggle in creating a game like this is making a fun, engaging, creative, and cohesive kit, all while paying homage to the original character. You cannot sacrifice one for another and expect the final product to be enjoyable, much less sellable.

As for reworking the trait, I would be alright with reworking the character in general. I really want him to feel more like a real maintain, possibly with Holy Ground baseline to make for a very interesting main tank ability, focused around area denial. I would be okay with shifting the slow from his Q to his E and removing the movement speed bonus, which would allow the balance team to more effectively distribute his power balance (movement speed bonuses, especially of that caliber, can make for incredibly powerful skills in high level play). As for the trait, there are many ways to remake it, but if we want to pay homage to the original, I think it should be an actual defensive ability. Instead of a post-death explosion (which have gradually been eroded from MOBA’s due to unreliability and them being mostly useless), perhaps let him revive at the area (a fall from heaven sort of animation) with some health back and dealing small area damage and slow, on a hefty cooldown.

As my personal experience of working in the field of concept design. That is really difficult. Designing new ideas requires serious focus and considerable time.

I think Tyrael need at least a source of mana on his talents special mana buff on Ardent Restoration or Smite will be good. His trait with the latest buff already is good and is in a balance situation.

I certainly would like him to have more mana, but I also want him to feel just a little more tanky. Maybe along with an innate way to gain mana they could change Righteousness to be a togglable ability that generates a bit of shields each second up to a maximum.

Here’s a thought I had: Have Tyreal gain mana equal to a percentage of damage he prevents. Then make it so that his Q ability also gives armor to any allies in the area. Then the more he protects his allies the more sustainable he is. Thoughts?

i do like the ideas, his current trait does too little damage and is too easily avoided.
not to mention “on death” talents are bad in general, because if you’re good,
you shouldn’t be dying much meaning your trait won’t be doing anything!

Here’s a thought: What if Tyreal was converted into a Support Hero? Upgrade his shielding to last longer, or even be a channel(giving small growing shield up to a max amount)? Maybe make his trait give shields to allies, or add to it so that a percent of buffs/healing he receives is also given to nearby allies?

The problem with Tyrael’ s trait is that this ability has nothing to do with the basic and heroic abilities and talents, especially since this ability depends on his death, which is not a positive parameter. We see that Uther and Leoric have the abilities while they are death, but they are more suitable than Tyrael’ s trait. Uther can heal his allies for 8 seconds and in continue this ability revive him by Redempion to level 20, thus creating a ring function. Leoric can also use his Q ability to slow the enemy and revive himself faster with his W.

Tyrael’ s trait inflicts significant AOE damage and is also effective in reviving him earlier, but it is less effective than others special that this ability can be easily neutralized by enemies. I think it would be better if we changed this ability and made it in line with his other abilities.

Anyway, let me to review again a temporary extra function that mentioned in the past.

Upon dying, you automatically cast Judgment (even if you didn’t choose it) targeting the last Hero that dealt damage to you, then you explode as normal.
