Matchmaking Update - December 21, 2018

I must say that with the recent changes queue times are shorter. I don’t mind having QMs when team are missing tank or healer or even both, but a game when one team has levels: 791, 347, 1010, 394, 241; and other: 1322, 352, 92, 34, 404 is a bit too much.
Please make adjustment targeting account level. It is unfair for all to have this kind of games.

Thanks! You forced me to stop playing your game when you reverse this changes!

With the release of the Call of the Nexus, we have seen a significant increase in match quality (in terms of meta composition) and have ultimately achieved the goal we set out to accomplish. However, we have also seen an increase in queue times, especially in certain regions, which we really don’t consider to be an acceptable trade-off. In response, we are going to temporarily loosen how rigid our rules are when it comes to enforcing meta compositions. Our overall goal with this change is to still create as many standard compositions as possible (Tank, Healer, Ranged Assassin) while also putting the quick back in Quick Match as we continue to make improvements to the system.

Hi. First time coming here. I’m playing HotS for around 3 years and this change has made me leave the game.

It only comps with new players or low level players that doesn’t know or just play bad + troll.
I’m not referring that i’m good, but i prefer waiting 5 minutes for a match than a losing streak because people trying new heroes without even caring trying it with IA or even watching a video on it.

That and the awfull comps that i’m getting, i have as enemy team exactly our counter or viceversa. I think you should work more on it OR AT LEAST GIVE US THE OPTION to chose the type of matchmaking (By matching lvl’s or mmr - I really don’t know how this work, but is an a idea).

Meanwhile i’m going to move aside, it’s just breaking up my nerves !!!

I’ll add something more… low level players using Hanzo in QM, best joke i’ve seen.

Thanks blizzard !

This is an old topic, but I just read it now. I think you could do that by setting up your favorites and then queueing as the purple guy with his restriction set to your favorites.

While I’m disappointed that “Call of the Nexus” matchmaking has been calmed down, the in-game tooltips do not reflect this. It has been nearly 1 full month and the tooltips still claim that each Quick Match will feature 1 Tank, 1 Healer, and 1 Ranged Assassin.

This is simply not true, and hasn’t been true since this blog post. An update to the in-game tooltips would be great, along with a new feature to opt-in to longer queue times in exchange for “Call of the Nexus” matchmaking would be great.

I would love to wait a few minutes longer to have a match with both teams using a Tank and a Support.

My suggestion for QM is that they should make it the same as in like queueing for random battlegrounds in world of warcraft and kind of like the bans in ranked play. Offer the player like a couple of heroes they would not like to see in the QM, as in banning them ( like 5 or so, before they search for a game). If the search time for a match will be high due to the banned heroes, just let it know. So the player can choose him/herself. Ban no heroes = fast queue and ban all possible bans and have long queues (depending on the heroes and whatnot). If they did this i would be so happy.

Bring back Performance Matchmaking if you want the hardcore audience happy.

The matchmaking system is so broken right now. You made some good changes in December to ensure each team was balanced, then reverted the change because some people complained. I actually loved the changes, even with the increased wait time.

Would it be too much to have a checkbox to request a balanced team? I don’t care if it takes 5 minutes to find a decent match; I’m just tired to wasting 20-25 minutes with a gimped team (generally a guaranteed loss). Last game my team had three tanks, 1 assassin, 1 support, while the opposing team has 1 tank, 3 assassins, and 1 support. There was literally nothing we could do with that. It came out to 3 kills for us, 35 kills for them. I’ve been on the other side of that and it’s not even that fulfilling to win in those situations.

We’re not all the same so please give us some options to define what kind of team we want to wait for. Those who don’t care can select nothing and have really low wait times.

I would like to see this reversal reversed. When teams with a tank, healer, and ranged dps were rigid the queue times were longer but the overall match quality was much more enjoyable. I exclusively play quick match and I would prefer to wait longer in order to have more reasonable team compositions. Games lacking dedicated healers are the least enjoyable HOTS games in my opinion.

It’s not a hard fix but should appease everyone!!! I cant play Ranked or Unranked as I cant find games where I am. Please reverse changes or add a simple opt in option. Until that day i Think i need to take a break these matches are doing my head in.

I just finished a game where my side had 2 specialists, 2 support, and 1 warrior take on a team that had 1 warrior, 1 support, and 3 assassins. Which team won? The latter. What is the excuse for that imbalance? Swapping one of my specialists for an assassin would have been a remarkable improvement.

Since he doesn’t need a rework I don’t think he will be getting one. Some small buffs to his numbers might be nice but I think his niche role right now is fine.

So a no ban draft that allows mirrors to occur and has all 10 players picking at the same time? Not a terrible idea for QM I suppose but i will ask for some clarity does the enemy team see your teams picks? And if someone doesn’t pick a hero will they be given a random hero or will the match cancel?

When 10 people are matched waiting in a lobby a pop up is displayed that players click accept, if not all 10 players hit ready ie. Afk player, match making finds extra players. During the draft the map is shown for 5 to 10 second timer then both sides pick for 30 or so seconds locking heroes no repeats first come first serve, both sides picks are shown. You can unlock a hero and change during allotted time. A dynamic visual indicator is shown suggesting draft help like too many assassins, need warrior, support etc… i.e. overwatch draft.

Trying to find the right comp is time consuming but if you teach the player base how to draft and just find 10 people you’ll get faster queue times.

Blizzard please wake up… the que times have been increased because all of the players leaving the game because your matchmaking has been trash since the official release. Of course you are more concerned with pushing skins, emoji and portrait pictures down our throat. News flash, we don’t want all those overpriced micro-payed garbage, we want a game that does what you guys advertise. Matchmaking in this game is just based on luck, and we do not feel we even get remotely matched with people of similar skills, yet you guys call it competitive? Since when did ‘having luck’ got ‘competitive’? We are all tired of your BS blizzard, and you very well know it. Still you are trying to push your crap as far as you can before even considering chancing your trajectory. But it will be too late by then, and your company will go into the history books as another sad story where greed turns something beautiful into pure misery. Good luck with that, I’m out!

Versus terrible damage to the game as a whole since its teaching people to have terrible habits because they have no idea how to position correctly. This guy claiming its snowflakes while revealing his own snowflakiness in that “had to wait for queues” :frowning: sad panda.

Hello Dylan. May I ask, why does the QM matchmaker constantly mismatch roles? Why do I always have games with 2v1 healer, or 3v1 ranged damage, or 2v1 / 3v1 warrior, or 3v0 specialists? Why can’t your team simply implement role parity in matchmaking? Is the player population that low where basic role parity cannot be achieved within a reasonable MMR range? Often times within these games, swaping a single player from each team would remedy the matchmaking imbalance.

Will this be addressed with the new role classifications? If so, does your team have a timeline for when it will be implemented into the game?

30 MINUTES TO GET INTO RANKED MATCH… unacceptable.
