I know this topic has floated around the last few years, but wanted to check if there was anything I’m missing here.
Basically, I don’t remember this game having much input lag a few years back. I’ve confirmed that others on Reddit and Youtube have posted similar issues with no real resolution.
When performing actions on a hero, even with a 15-30ms ping, it feels like it’s playing at 250-400ms. For instance, firing off a Q shot, need to not only predict where the hero is, but where they are about to go to factor in the slight delay. Even just moving side to side it feels like I’m waiting for actions to occur.
Steps I’ve tried so far:
- Hardwired to router (direct connection to ISP) - was previously using wifi
- Installed latest video card drivers (GTX 980 Ti)
- Uninstalled OneDrive and other useless programs
- Modified graphic and sound settings
All of which seems to make no difference.
Has anyone tried anything else that could potentially help? Or is this just how HOTS is now? When I watch streamers play, I’m not seeing the same click delays occur.
Update 1:
For whatever reason, played a few games today and 75% of the games the input lag was much improved. It felt like I had to re-learn the game all over as I wasn’t used to having a much better response on actions.
At this point, I’m convinced it just has to be the servers themselves. Nothing has changed on my end and it magically would work great for 10-20 minutes at a time, then in the same game return to what it was.
Update 2:
So it appears that when my FPS is 200+ the input lag is greatly reduced. When it drops under 180 it’s much more noticeable. When it’s 100-120, it’s pretty bad. Does this have any actual correlation?
