I just noticed there's "wood" tier on HeroesProfile now

Thats why i said players vary a lot. But those who have the biggest issue at understanding the system, usualy are in bronze regardless. Its better to be more clear and have more people understand it, than to just remain vague.

The problem which many have is understanding and putting infinity into perspective, especialy when its related to the smallest possible number that isnt 0. Only when given the hint of it being such system, do they start to get an idea. But even then, proportional comparing remains hard to them.

For a lot of people 1 → 2 seems a lot smaller than 100 → 200. But for infinity it doesnt matter as at that point only the relation between the 2 matter (and both is a 1:2 ratio). Math is something a lot of people consider difficult, plenty already resolve to their calculator for even easy to calculate things.
And this is exactly why they report it as a bug, they simply dont understand what is going on.

Showing a potential positive infinity is at least easier since it allows a display of linear scale. And when its linear, regular calculations can be performed.

Another thing that however could work, is instead of showing points gained, is to show a percentage instead. This percentage after all remains static throughout the rank.
Winning at 20 MMR and gaining 2, would still display 10%, similar to a 400 gaining 40. This way it at least gives a better idea of what is going on, even if calculating the remaining matches to win remains difficult.

That’s an elegant solution too, that wouldn’t be hiding their point gain, while also showing their true progress towards B4. It’s a good alternative.

Though they might still get upset that their friend gets 20% progress after playing a match while they get 1%. Then they make a forum topic saying “why did I only get 1% progress towards Bronze 4?”

It’s a difficult problem to tackle.

Wood league relates perfectly the numerous players playing as smurfs and/or new players power leveled by their teammates. They all just don’t deserve their rank and make the competitive part of the game meaningless.

But some are thinking that bronze players should be even deeper in hell and try to redefine the sense of wood league…

The thing is, their friends see a point gain, they only see a percentage.

And sure, they do see 20+10% instead of 2000+200. and they might still say ‘that is just 2’.

But for that your suggestion of hinting to bronze 5 using a percentage instead of numeric adjustments would be a fine enough explenation. As then they know they are getting that system, and they do see how it works aswel.

The hint could even be:
“To enable bronze 5 to contain a larger variety of player skill, it uses a percentage based system so at the lower point values skill diffirences remain significant enough to be measured.”
This can be written in a quite positive way aswel, which seems to be the way blizzards wants to communicate.
On that, i do think that because everyone plays heroes, its part of a theme to make everyone sound powerful. Its just that there is a point where ‘enough is enough’.
