I think it’s because Blizzard didn’t know how to help this Unique game thrive.
There’s literally NO marketing team for this game, and it’s sad!

I’m an avid watcher of heroes of the storm (bloopers) on Youtube as well.
If you guys haven’t checked check it out, I actually saw Narha on there once pushing a sgt hammer into the spider’s purple wave shot lol epic.
They dropped the ball on it and I don’t think they had the green light to try to fix it and make it better because the numbers didn’t look impressive enough compared to other projects.
I literally saw a League ad on youtube the other day. And League also has a Netflix show… They’re expanding their audience. Heroes of the Storm hasn’t done anything like that as long as I can remember. As a result, no one knows about how awesome this game is.
I’m glad its being kept alive by organized things like this. I wish I could participate but I am pretty busy as I’m in school, and I don’t think I can compete to be honest haha. I’ll try to watch when I can though because I like watching organized games.

HOTS is dead since the release of Hogger (2020-12-01). People just continue to play it.

Just like any dead game since 2004. Hots is no different. I know games on the internet that was created back in 2005 and still got a dedicated playerbase even today even tho not much gets added now.
Those people will still play the game until it shuts down completly casue they are loyal to the game. People that the game dont satisfie anymore will ofc leave it for better games with higher playerbase and more updates.

Their arrogance and ignorance made them fail across the board.

And actually it wouldn’t need to be like that. A lot of people don’t like things in LoL and would appreciate a more Lore and Comic style universe. But sadly there is no option currently. Dota 2 of course is an option too but it’s very different.

New heroes plus cosmetics is actually the way to keep a free 2 play MOBA alive. This plus cosmetics is more or less the only way to generate constant in-game revenue, which in turn enables marketing and whatsoever to attract new players. Also to constant meta shift keeps the game interesting for old players.
HOTS is dead for real. You just can still play it.
