HotS causing Discord Lag

So I’ve searched for this many times both on google and here on the tech support forums and have yet to find anyone else talking about this issue. Basically what happens is while playing HotS, my Discord will lag. I can’t understand people and they can’t understand me. I play Starcraft and WoW and don’t have this issue at all. I also play many other games outside Blizzard games and don’t get this issue, so I know its not an internet thing (at least, I dont see how it could be). My internet is also 300/150, and often performs better than that. I was hoping I could get some help with solving the issue. I should mention its not constant. It will just randomly happen during games, where its like my latency spikes, without actually spiking. Thanks in advance for any help I can get!

Hello TADMG!

That is an odd case, especially if it’s not happening with other Blizzard games, since they go through a lot of the same network destinations… right off the bat, I’m curious about firewall configuration, as there are some ports that are specific to different games.

Configuring Router and Firewall Ports

Some more specific instructions not included in the article…

After selecting the TCP radio button, copy-paste the following line for the Specific Local Port field:

80, 443, 1119-1120, 3724, 6113

After finishing the TCP rule, make a new rule following the steps, but select UDP instead of TCP. Then, for those Specific Local Ports, copy-paste this:

80, 1119-1120, 3478-3479, 3724, 5060, 5062, 6113, 6250, 12000-64000

Then finish the steps and retry the game.

If you’re on a wired connection, let’s also check the configuration of the ethernet device itself.

Network Card Support

We’re looking at the stuff under step 3 in particular. For the Checksum Offload settings, look for TCP Checksum Offload (IPv4) and UDP Checksum Offload (IPv4).

Best of luck in your adventures

Try going into task manager, rightclick the HeroesOfTheStorm.exe and click on “Set Affinity…”, then click on the checkmark on CPU 0 (and if your CPU supports SMT or HT (= Hyperthreading)), also unmark CPU1.

Sorry I’ve been busy this weekend and just now got around to doing this. I will hopefully get some friends on to play in the next day or two, so I can find out if it helped. I do hope it works though, as I have been dealing with this for quite some time now. Its weird though, cause I sometimes will be able to play with no DIscord issues what so ever. Then other times, its practically impossible to speak with my friends.
