[Hero Concept] Kev "Rattlesnake" West

Kev “Rattlesnake” West, a Marauder from Starcraft 2, one of the members of Tychus’ gang, the Heaven’s Devils. He is a hybrid of tank and healer.

[Q] Concussive Shell: damage and slow a target.
[W] Deploy Revitalizer: place a structure that heals and increases attack speed for all allies and himself in a big area. Consider to make it invulnerable, or give it a big enough radius to place it safely behind, or hide it in a bush.
[E] Secret Stash Stimpack: heals himself, increases his attack and movement speeds.

[R1] Umojan Signal Modulator: double the healing and attack speed bonus of Revitalizer.
[R2] Hammer Munitions: double the damage of Concussive Shell. It explodes in a small area, and slows all enemies within.

Rattlesnake should have as much health as a bruiser warrior. With 2 abilities to heal himself, he should be tanky, and an ability for soft CC. With heroics, he can choose to be either more of a healer, or more CC.

Weakness: He doesn’t have a real escape, and no abilities to resist CC.

There’s a problem with this idea: Marauders are just reskinned firebats. Heck, Blaze already has Marauder as a skin option.

How are you going to make two identical suits of armor distinguishable from each other?

Their armors are actually different. The tanks on their backs are different. The tubes on their waists are different. Their shoulders are different. The armors around their heads are also different.

Their weapons are different. You can’t mistake between firethrower and rocket launcher. Firebat has 2 flamethrowers each hand, while Marauder has 1 big rocket gun each hand.

Moreover, Blaze has a flame decal on his armor. So, Rattlesnake can have a different decal.

All minor details that could easily vary between skins of a single character.

You don’t seem to be getting this whole “skins” thing.

The things that need to be different are body proportions and how they stand, both of which are easily recognisable regardless of what skin they’re wearing. And they need to be dramatically different too, not just a little different.

How to make 2 models look different is Blizzard’s job, not mine, okay? Similar skins are never an excuse to deny a hero.

If you want differences, there are some. If they are not enough, request more. Firebat and Marauder have already stood side by side since 8 years ago.

Yes, but they haven’t stood side by side in a game where one being bright red wasn’t a significant difference, and identifying which was which in less than a second could decide the game.

Do you insist that Blizzard artists can’t make the 2 models look distinguish?

They can make them look like two different skins for the same hero, but making them visibly different heroes would require redesigning the Marauder armor to the point that it’s no longer a marauder.

No need to that extend. Something that I can even do by myself:

  • Change the 2 tanks on the back to one big tank with some big tubes around.
  • Blaze’s shoulders are round, so make Rattlesnake’s shoulders more rectangle, sharper, and bigger.
  • Change the chest part, instead of 2 flash lights, make it 1 big flash light in middle, like Iron Man or something. Don’t tell me you can’t tell apart a flame decal and a big flash light.
  • Make his rocket launchers even bigger, in the case you can’t even tell differences between them and flamethrowers now.

And all of those would be great changes for a skin for Blaze.

But none of those change his silhouette or posture enough to prevent him from being mistaken as a skin for Blaze.
