Freezelag in matches

During matches, I am experiencing some sort of freezelag when fights or other major events are about to go down.
This started happening after the latest patch.
I did some tests with the WinMTR wich I will try to add here so that you can see the results. The results didnt look very good as far as I can tell.
I also did the Pathping wich seemed to look better.
Do you need my computer-specs as well?

yes that WinMTR does not have very good ping. the ‘WRST’ column shows the highest ping being over 1000ms (1 second). which is bad. that is probably something to talk with your ISP about to see if it is something they can help you with.

The “funny” thing is that it’s only in HOTS that I experience this and only since the latest patch. I play a few other games and nothing like this happens, so I really don’t think it’s the ISP. Ofc I will contact them to see anyway.

like i was saying the ‘WRST’ column is the highest ping you received on that line. you can see on these lines, your ISP, you have very high pings. by itself a high ping on one line may not indicate anything. however, this high ping is continuous down the entire WinMTR suggesting that it is a real problem.

so there is definitely something going on in my opinion.

My indication that I dont think it is the ISP is simply that ALL other games (including OW wich also is Blizzard) works without problems, no lag, no high ping or something like that. Seeing that it has worked well with HOTS before the update/patch gives me more indication that this is the case.
Also, the pathping wich I made toward the same 2 IP-adresses did not indicate this high ping as far as I can see.
And of course you are right, something is fishy here.

pathping, ping, and tracert do a limited amount of tests to a node so its easy to miss intermittent issues. WinMTR will run continuous as long as you let it and you may find issues the others dont catch with it.

try this:
go into the WinMTR and test www.google.com
see if this non-blizzard website gives you any different results.

Ok. For how long would you recommend that I do this? I’ve been having it on for a solid 20-30min now and it looks good to me, at least compared to the other ones.

The issue is often not even related to the ISP. Rather it is some tier 1 or tier 2 network that the ISP hands the packets over to during transit to the Blizzard servers. Due to the rise in streaming and lack of need to upgrade bandwidth, packet loss can be common through such networks. Even if the packet makes it, the packets from Blizzard might be subject to similar losses.

This is why the EU is investing billions of euros on upgrading the internet throughout Europe. It is pointless delivering 1gbps fibre to every house hold when connecting cities there is only a 100 gbps fibre. Without national intervention companies will not install the required bandwidth because they can apply things like QoS or raise the price of existing bandwidth.

yes it does look better than before and seems to have taken a similar path out of your ISP network.

thats a very good point. however, doesnt this usually show up in the WinMTR as a different provider?

for example in their first MTRs up there going to blizzard it goes straight from Telenor to Blizzard with no intermediary.

Some ISPs might be connected directly if they own one of the connecting nodes.
