Extensive Replay Hotkey Guide

Tired of that UI? Want to see a more detailed description of the player’s actions during that game? Then fear no more, because you don’t need to left click them anymore! (rhythm not intended)

In this guide, we will go over detail about using the Replay system to its full potential, whether it being rewatching your actions in a game to actually what happened in there or just for uploading clips without that UI cluttering it.

Anyways let’s get started.

Replay Hotkeys

P - Play/Pause the Replay

F - Goes Forward

:b: - Goes :b:ack

-/= - Changes the Speed of the Replay

Ctrl + E - Restart the Replay (This is so bugged and will disable the UI instead, you need to observe a hero first to Restart the Replay)

Ctrl + T - Shows Timeline of the Replay

User Interface

Tab - Toggles the Stats Tab that literally everyone knows why am I even mentioning this one???.

Ctrl + E - Toggles the Top Bar of the UI but does not hide it entirely and the Map.

Ctrl + Shift + E - Also Toggles the Top Bar of the UI and also includes the detailed panes (which will be mentioned here) and the Map.

Both of these mentioned functions above somewhat work the same but these commands will be replaced with “Restarting” the Replay if you are spectating a hero.

Ctrl + Shift + W - Toggles the hero’s user interface (Health/Mana Bar, Abilities, and Talents Page) + also the Map.

Ctrl + Shift + O - Toggles the Replay box.

Toggling All of the three mentioned above this message will remove all the UI in the Replay.

Ctrl + 1 - Toggles Detailed Talents Pane.

Ctrl + 2 - Toggles Stats Pane.

Ctrl + Shift + C - Toggles the Chat Log, if it’s not working for you, just drag it to the top of the screen, works every time.

Important: Pressing Ctrl + Shift + E and Ctrl + E while Spectating a hero will be overridden by “Restart” which goes back to the start of the Replay, so it’s advised to press it BEFORE Spectating that specific hero (more details about spectating heroes in the Camera section).

Camera

0 - 9 - Observe heroes, during observation:

  • Hero User Interface is added (health/mana bar, abilities, etc).
  • Vision is reduced to what the hero sees.
  • Player actions like left click to move and casting attacks are visible.
  • Team pings of the hero’s side will play instead of all pings from both sides playing together.

Note: The observe hotkeys seem to have an order which is from left to right: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0.

E - Observe all players.

Backspace - Similiar functionality to E which for some reason is now bugged

L - Locks Camera on the Spectated Player

C - Toggles between locking the camera and where the camera was while playing.

C and L - seems to not synergies well together, if you want to see where the camera was while playing, it is advised to disable camera lock (L) and toggle C.

Space - Centers the Hero in the middle of the camera.

Z - Zoom out more than you could in a normal game.

Shift + Z - Zoom out even more than you could in a normal game, also it’s considered the highest zoom out possible in the game.

Other

These aren’t necessary but could be helpful for some people who like recording highlights.

Ctrl + S - Toggles Sound
Ctrl + M - Toggles Music

Note:

  • This can be used outside of Replays.
  • You need to reenable it back or else you won’t have music or sound depending on which you toggled, you can toggle them back by pressing the hotkey again or going to Settings > Audio.

Secret Hotkeys

Not really a secret to SC2 players for sure but anyway, it is possible to rotate the camera 45 degrees but by default, it’s unbound and there’s no way to bind in-game, fortunately, this can be solved with a simple file edit.

Follow these steps:

  1. Find the folder "C:\Users\Username\Documents\Heroes of the Storm\Accounts\[1234567890]\Hotkeys
  2. Within that folder, there are your hotkey profiles. If you don’t have one, create one in the game.
  3. Edit the hotkey profile file with a simple text editor (like Notepad). The file contains four sections: Settings, Hotkeys, Commands, and Modifiers.
  4. In the “[Hotkeys]” section add the following:
CameraTurnLeft=Insert
CameraTurnRight=Delete

Note: You can change Insert and Delete to whatever button you like.

  1. Save and relaunch HotS

33 seconds video showing all the steps above:

Note: This can be used outside of Replays.

That’s all for now if you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

I really appreciate that

I have used it multiple times outside of replays for fun, but it’s kinda rough holding one of the buttons to keep the rotation up.

Thanks for best info.

I’m ok with this necro. Information still helpful and useful.

(In the event that I ever decide to actually submit a clip or make a video…)

ctrl+shift+ 0 (or O, I’ve tried both) doesn’t do anything.

If I press CTRL+SHIFT+O (the letter, not the number), the control box that shows the playback time, pause button, speed controls, and game time slider toggles on and off.

Some hotkeys get overridden depending on what state you are in, are you viewing a certain hero (pressing 1 to 9 or 0 on your keyboard)? IIRC it overrides that button, in that case you can exit it by pressing E.

Replay hotkeys are sometimes very jank and overlap on each one and another.
