Error 5:740 after recent update

As of recent I receive this error message whenever I attempt to launch HOTS. This is the first time I’ve had this happen and only recently did it happen. Judging by google I found solutions like setting the game to Administrator and restarting my computer but nothing has helped.

I’ve tried reinstalling everything, I’ve tried setting it to administrator, I’ve tried restarting my computer, I have disabled antivirus and onedrive and everything. I’ve tried the repair scan and so on.

I was able to get past it a single time by running battlenet as admin and the game as admin or whatever but it only worked once. There’s a graveyard of reports about it from as early as 2018 to as recent as 2024.

With any luck it will fix itself.

I have also encountered this issue of “Error 5:740.“ Yesterday my game was no longer working after playing the day before.

I tried re-installing, running Heroes as administrator, Resetting in-game options, Updating my Nvdia drivers.

I was able to resolve the issue by running Blizzard App/BattleNet as administrator.

I don’t have any idea if this will help, but if you have yet to try this, it may be worth attempting.
