"First and foremost, the system tries to match you with players of your current visible rank, even if you have an abnormal winrate. But if there’s not enough people in the queue, limitation is lifted to get you in a match faster…Finally, any matchmaking system’s purpose is to give people fair matches, with the ideal being 50% winrate for everyone. Due to previous points, we can’t just put overperforming people into hihger ranked matches since decreased winrate would prevent them from climbing. It would result in difference between their skill level and visible rank.
Our solution lies in MMR aveeraging. When someone is on a winning streak. Their winrate and MMR increases. To normalize it, we match overperforming players with equally underperforming players against that rank’s average players. This gives everyone a 50% of chance of winning. Interanally we call this method “compelled Fairness”. "
Edit
Oh looks like this was photoshopped, Oops. Game still dead.
It also says Feb’19, we are Jan’15, there’s a chain button below the comment that gives a link to the comment itself, all Blizzard link are white listed, can’t you add it to the OP?
This isn’t news. A good matchmaker aims to get people to the point where they have a 50% winrate. If you’re winning a lot that means you’re up against people less skilled than you. If you’re losing a lot you’re up against opponents who are more skilled than you. If you’re in the 49- 51% winrate range that means you’re going up against people your skill level since if you have equal matchups it should average out to 50% winrates. You see higher winrates for better players because they need to win more before they get to that point where they are evenly matched and the same is true with people who are considerably below average.
Congratulations to OP for falling to the same guy who posted a fluff that he reached level 100 Imperius the moment he was released, have a good day everyone.
Just because a system works to make a match where each team has 50% chance of winning, it doesn’t mean it is forcing players to have a 50% winrate.
Forced 50% would happen if the team who had more players with more wins in a row (higher winrate) had less chances of winning because the system “forces them to lose”.
Care to understand what they are saying in that old news please.
The poster of this image on Reddit confirmed he photoshopped it, tagged it fluff and said he was giggling at people screaming “I knew it!” in their confirmation bias.
He delibirately chose an impossible date and a dev name that doesnt exist.
Gz you failed to read anything in the thread and just saw the image or your friend trolled you…
Also for any of you trying to somehow justify the fake posts content in the image, get a grip, if it was true it would be a catastrophe.
/end of fluff thread with a photoshopped image, anyone posting below “I knew it” are confirmed for only looking at the picture and not reading anything on their own to get their facts straight.
Even if this was not photoshopped… this is how a matchmaker is supposed to work!!!
Even if this was not a photoshopped post…
Despite the fact it describes the situation terribly, this is also a way a matchmaker may work!
Basically it’s saying if your rank is climbing, it will/may try to estimate where your skill is, and make a match with that skill level!
Because your real MMR is not the estimate it is using, if you lose your MMR will not be reduced as much as a “truly fair” match, and if you win your will gain extra MMR.
You can climb your internal MMR at a 50% winrate. Although obviously being over 50% winrate makes it much easier.
On that note, your winrate can be higher than 50% over time, but you could lose internal MMR over time.
Just the way it is worded makes it sound like a terrible thing, because it does not clearly explain things.
To put it simply(because some people just don’t get it somehow):
A properly even match should have a 50/50 shot of either team winning. That’s what makes it an even match.
A proper matchmaking system tries to make even matches, as nobody likes getting stomped. You might like stomping(for some reason) but the system isn’t designed to favor you because it’s a PvP game. Favoring one team means screwing the other team.
Thus if you are winning an abnormal amount, your rank rises. As your constant winning means you are clearly matched against weaker player. The opposite is true if you keep losing.
Now the important bit: the system doesn’t work instantly. Your rank changes slowly, averaged over many games.
If you want a game where you constantly win all the time? Then any PvP with matchmaking is not for you.
Now see what you did OP? You should be ashamed of yourself spreading false information like that. If you ever want your posts to taken seriously you should apologise to Sami, mada7, Darak, Vision, Hoku, Mortalwombat, PlanarChaos, Dagordae, Macweak, Sami, everyone on the forums, your mother, your father, your brother, your sister, your dog, your cat, your fish, your mirror, Sami again, and myself for having to look at this sorry post.
TLDR: Sarcasticly demanding an apology from OP to everyone on the forums.
