Computer crash on Sky Temple

It seems that certain combinations of maps and heroes causes the entire Mac to crash consistently.

I played some games the last few days and everything went fine until I got a game on Sky Temple. The Mac just rebooted once the game got started with multilingual os error message. I tried to rejoin the game twice. Both times the Mac rebooted once I got back into the game.

I have an iMac 27-inch 2019
3.7 GHz Intel Core i5
40 GB RAM
Radeon Pro 580X 8 GB
macOS Catalina v10.15.3

After that I gave up once I remembered that the same thing happened a couple of weeks ago when I decided to take up some HotS again. That time I also played multiple games just fine, then one combination, probably of map and/or heroes caused the Mac to start rebooting every time the game was about to start.

I did not get a prompt to send a crash report to Blizzard because the entire OS crashes and reboots. I have sent a crash report to Apple since it prompted me after the second reboot.

I can’t find a replay file for the crashing game either in the folder where the other games I played are (~/Library/Application Support/…/Multiplayer)

I don’t remember all the heroes. It was Quickmatch on Sky Temple. I was Murky and there was a Nova on my team. There was a Butcher on the enemy team, but no tanks.

I have another Sky Temple game in the replay folder in the most recent batch up games, so it’s not Sky Temple alone that causes the crash.

Hey there gekko513,

You might want to try our Mac Support forums instead of Bug Report. Support over there would be better equipped to look into an OS level crash and work with you to identify what is happening.

Thanks!

OK sure I’ll head over there, but it does seem more like a bug than a support issue considering I’ve played 39 games fine, and then there are 2 particular combinations that are unplayable.

Since I posted I thought I’d try to find such a combination that causes the crash using a custom game setup. I found one combination that causes the crash on Sky Temple and another that doesn’t. Are you interested in that here in this subforum, or should I bring everything to the support forum?

Edit: Seems like upgrading to macOS Catalina 10.5.4 might solve the issue, just in case anyone else stumbles on this before finding the list of known issues in the support forum.
