[Cheating] ARAM Team Stack by Creating New Account

Seems like more and more players are creating new account to team stack in ARAM to get the best players on their team and screw up the balance of the game.

There’s nothing you can really do about it as you can’t prove if they’re experienced or new players, so you can’t report it. Blizzard’s match making system will always try to make sure both teams is balanced in terms of skill level, but if an experienced player creates a new account the match making system will think they’re new players therefore lacks the skills required to contribute to the team and will stack highly skilled players with the person who has a new account.

The result is a game that’s not fun for one of the teams. When the balance of the game is no longer balanced. When the game becomes so unbalanced that the option on your mind is to play and lose, wait and give the match, or leave the game.

A solution I can think of to address this problem is putting a level bar in ARAM, so that only players above a certain level can play in ARAM, and that level is up to Blizzard to decide. This way it ensure no experienced player can just create a new account and stack all the best players on their team. Effectively shutting down this team stack cheat.

What do you guys think?

Does aram even have an mmr?

It seems it has. It was discussed some time ago: ARAM MMR, is there such a thing?

that topic is pure speculation where the op just keeps insisting it is there when it isnt

if i get a level 1 hanzo and a player who is grandmaster this season on my aram team (all solo q), there is no matchmaking at all, its giving me whoever queued

that kind of matchup never happens to me in qm

also aram sometimes has ai’s placed on a team, how the heck would any mmr gain work in that situation?

Good thing there is no balance or mmr in ARAM! This might have been a real problem!

ARAM does not have a match maker. They do not need to create new accounts to do that. It will happily match randoms with a total level of over 7,000 against 1 person that is level 1,000 and 4 people that are below level 100.

Maybe it has newbie protection? But that only applies to really low level accounts and honestly if that was the case they should have near 100% win rate. It also would be utterly pointless as you might have a more challenging game stomping Versus AI robots.

I prefer to believe what makes the most sense. And an MMR system that decay quickly to find a game quickly makes the most sense to explain the different experiences of players.

Why would they need to create a new account for that? They can just team up and queu for ARAM.

Not in ARAM.

ARAM is not, and never was balanced.

Yea, ARAM has no mmr so smurfing in it is utterly pointless.

You’re correct there is no MM in ARAM. As you also pointed out, I don’t know how anyone can assert there is when AI can be added to teams.

Spazzo (04/23/2021):

aram has an mmr system, it’s just it’s pretty much ignored
like it’ll make a match before it’ll make a balanced match
but if there’s enough people in queue to make a balanced match, it’ll do that
it lessens very, very quickly
like quicker than qm

If there’re AIs on someone’s team, it’s because of low pop. regions where the MM never has the time to accomplish its task.

It’s happened to me twice on the US server (off peak hours) and the US isn’t a low population server.

How long was the waiting time?

There’s no MMR in aram. It’s is entirely random. The only thing certain is that you get on the same team as the one you queued with. If those players are smurfs, it’s very likely they will destroy you but not because of the MM, but because the playerbase on average is bad, yes I said it, if you are reading this right now, it’s very likely you are bad, which gives more seasoned players(smurfs are usually created by higher ranked players) the upper hand together with some coordination.

I have gotten that message as soon as ~60 seconds into an ARAM que.

(If someone can’t open the pic above, it says:
“To help reduce queue times, AI players may be added to both teams.”)

Also my matchups are utterly inconsistent in ARAM, I get the whole gamut of players from lv0 who just started HotS to real GM’s. Regardless of how I perform on a day by day basis.

60 sec is way past the threshold.

If there was a single instance of this happening in QM, it wouldn’t invalidate the MMR implication when the MM does its job.

Personally, when I started ARAM on a new account or server, the average MMR was 2,000 on both team at the start and I had 82.4% WR solo for 34 games. Now that I’m around 3,000, the average is 2,650 and I’m at 50.2% WR solo (207 games this season).

I think ARAM has newbie protection to some extent like other game modes, except Versus AI. This limits matches to other “new” players, or at least heavily biases it. You can see this by the levels you are matched with and against, very rarely are they single digit levels unless in a party or the match maker was starting to consider AI allies. However once that newbie protection ends it throws everyone from level 50s to level 4,500s into matches.

Also I would expect ARAM average skill to have increased since it became an actual game mode. Originally when it still had Brawl rewards you often ended up with new players just doing it for the free loot, or people rushing it and not caring if they won or lost (as the reward was usually 3 matches played, win or lose). Now the only players who play ARAM actually want to ARAM, so might be players like yourself at a similar skill level.

I asked him about that and its just his speculation with no basis.

I’m certain that when brawls/ARAM was introduced the Devs said there is no MMR used. Things change, so someone could pose the question on Reddit.

Another way to test would be to make two alt accounts, play one only in ARAM and the other in QM then play ranked and see where you land.

It was mentioned in the trailer that announced brawls.
