Cannot launch game error 5:740

I was in-game and while trying to solve the constant stuttering issue, I looked up some solutions that I could try. One suggestion was to run as administrator through the Task Manager by right-clicking the HOTS.exe in the Task Manager and Running as Administrator. I did this and it did not fix the aforementioned issue…

Even worse, after getting off, I have not been able to launch the game anymore and been getting error 5:740. I went into the HOTS installation folder and the .exe and does not have the checkbox marked as “Run as Administrator,” so it must be through the Task Manager, but I cannot get the game open to uncheck that box anymore.

I have tried the following, please help:

  1. Battle.net as admin
  2. Running HOTS.exe from installation folder (it tries to go through launcher and gets the same error)
  3. HOTS.exe as admin
  4. Computer restart
  5. Scan and Repair
  6. Complete re-install

Dealing with the same thing… randomly worked for just 1 game… then back to the same error
