edit: ah btw, butcher is my 4th or 5th most played hero, averagely i get my full stacks around 6-7 minutes, fastest was 3.5 minutes, and if i get it after 10 minutes, there is a very high chance of me losing that game.
in the video you shared, fan got his full stack at around 10 minutes, after losing 2 lane’s keep. and tomb of the spider queen is actually a pro-butcher map imo.
Yusuke, when i mentioned low healthed units, i was not referring to them in the tense butcher directly can deal with them, but rather they can be killed easier, hence they are easier for butcher to collect. While you yourself may not feed there are plenty of murky players, or Lost Vikings, that do because of either a lack of map awareness or simply because they aren’t worried about their deaths because of the exp contribution, completely forgetting that they are feeding butcher his quest. I’ve had murky’s that fed butcher his entire quest just by themselves to the point he got 260 meat just off murky.

butch is an awkward hero, he is never just “ok”,
he’s either an unstoppable wreckingball if played well and with a team comp who can feed him,
or he doesn’t complete his quest and is borderline useless.

Now, wether having such a hero is good for the game or not, is it’s own discussion (but some people keep asking for some kind of carry-enabling mechanic, so I guess butch doesn’t do it, or at least not sufficiently?)
Yes like Ilidan. I would also call this design: “hard carry”. In other mobas those types of heroes are more common, they are totally weak in the early, but when they get their level and farm, they run rampage. One example is Antimage, who is Dota 2’s Ilidan version.
He can carry quite well, but the problem with the Butcher or Ilidan is probably that Hots has no early game like Dota 2 or LoL, where you sit on one lane and farm, but that’s what this heroes needs, especially The Butcher to be more effective. So what does he need to be successful in Hots? A comp build around him, which can endure long enough to get him his farm (stacks).
That’s why people suggesting reduce his quest requirement or add some kind of safe spots, where he don’t lose much stacks after deaths (like 50, 100, 150 up to 200), but nerf his quest reward a bit to be more in line. That’s would basically reduce his carry potencial late game, but also take away adjust the early game for him to be less punishing. While I like the way how The Butcher works I understand the idea behind, because his concept seems more fitting to Dota 2/LoL than Hots, even though he would be probably op in those games.
Sounds like he’s a balanced and team-depended hard carry, if you can support him to break his barrier, he will carry you the game, if not then you will lose.
I think this is a great way to put it: Butcher (as he is right now) is a hero that fits better in a different Moba. Dota 2 and LOL have significantly longer laning phases and that allows heroes with Butcher’s type of power growth to consistently ramp up over the course of the game without too much of a chance of being totally useless. The fact that scaling in other Mobas is typically far in excess of scaling in hots (being able to consistently 1v2 or even 1v3 in DOTA 2 and LOL is possible because of how insane state scaling works when fed) fits him even better.
I think Butcher just needs to be reworked with HOTS’ specific mechanics and Micro/Macro design.
