Meta comps, meta maps, ect. What are ways to counter it. Some maps have gotten old for me bc they always play the same (towers of doom for ex. I hate always having 4 bot and one duel soaker).
List me a specific enemy comp and map and I’ll tell you what I know. I don’t like telling broad strategies that would affect only 10% of the game play.
Pick Probius or Valeera.
No one will see it coming.
Best meta counter is IMO is being low ranked. Every game plays different and not necessarily in a good way.
Play backdooring strats (without drafting Morales which is too obvious). Right from the beginning of the game, just sneak up on a building. It takes usually people by surprise as they are expecting a regular 1v1 top and 4v4 bot.
Even easier with Sylvanas, as she can enable the team to chunk down a fort really fast after the game starts. You then get catapults for free within first minutes of the match.
The enemy can counter it if they all come to that lane to defend but it usually doesn’t happen even in higher MMR.
There are no downsides, except some people think playing HotS this way is “dirty” or immoral.
Also, there is a safer way to do it with Medivh and his portals, I’ve never seen it in person, only in screenshots.
But if you are dead bored of meta strats, it’s worth a shot. It’s by no means a guaranteed win, as isn’t any other strategy. It also requires cooperation from the team.
edit - on Hanamura you can even walk/sneak up on their Keep early game. Even if a few of you die that’s a huge net positive if you destroy it.
Is it? I mean I wouldn’t think about Morales cheese, if I don’t see Morales paired with Tyrael, Raynor or Artanis.
If she’s drafted with Sylvanas, I think it becomes too suspicious/easy to anticipate. But if she’s not paired with any of the heroes you mentioned (& sylv), yeah, most wont anticipate her to be used for juice pirates.
I may try to help with TLV. Name enemy heroes with TLV and map.
I was doing that with friends in quick match after we got so tired of playing by the book.
So we didn’t sneak up by foot, we kept flying into their building.
But we did the easy thing and went with the medic [Lt Morales].
It is so funny when you manage to win a game with just 1 kill when the enemies killed you 30 times. All is fair in love and war
It’s interesting though that most Morales comps I encountered on the enemy team, don’t contained Sylvanas, but rather I saw Azmodan. And if I wouldn’t experienced Sylvanas by myself, because one of my friend is playing her I wouldn’t even think about her, even though I know her trait is effective…
She is really good for this, but she is optional.
The strategy really falls apart if you are missing Tyrael. You need sanctification for when enemies arrive to defend you which they eventually will. That can’t be skipped.
I wish this game had more non-meta strategies. If it does, I want to learn them.
Exactly! That’s why I don’t like this backdoor-nerf threads, because it’s those non-meta strategys that makes the game challenging, because you know how dynamic the game can be.
There is an even older strat to face meta sheep than backdoors, it’s taking an early camp and deathballing the solo lane as 5. It forces the enemy to react, they can’t just keep spreading out on all 2-3 lanes.
That is the oldest offmeta strat I have ever found. Even that topic is from 6 years ago.
I’d like to try it some day with a group to see if it works. I have seen it used once in CCL on Cursed Hollow (without the camp, just straight up deathballing bot lane).
That was easier to do when camps spawned very early though.
Though you could do it on any map.

I might try that. I’d like to think Morales would benefit in deathballs too as her early game healing output is very high, and if she positions well she is hard to focus (focus Morales!!).
Structures don’t give as much XP as before, so this strategy is obsolete in the current meta where TLV exists and Gul’dan + Morales + 2 more can depush that 5 man.
The counter is the other metas.
Actually how effective is Abathur’s backdoor push build (it’s still 25% extra damage)?
If there were counters to metas there wouldn’t be a “meta” to begin with. Poor word choices.
Depends on rank; just because KT is meta in bronze - gold, doesn’t mean he is meta in higher leagues.
You have to survive the early game with it because he only comes online at lvl 16.
So, you need strong early heroes like Morales, Fenix, Cassia and Deathwing.
The lack of tank is due to the split push nature of the comp. The key is to kite their frontline as much as possible.
