About Cassia build and strategies

New to Cassia, appreciate some help.
Why according to guide, we should use Blinding Light prior to Fend? How does the blind help?
If my Fend failed to hit any further targets after channeling for some time, should I cancel it(can I?) and use auto attack?
As for Lightning Fury’s extra split lightning , do we need to capitalize on it or it is just a fun way to deal extra damage?

P/S : Her attack animation which is basically throwing an unlimited supply of well-crafted javelin kinda bug me lol

What guide?

You do extra damage to blinded targets, and you cannot cast abilities when using fend, so you pre-blind the enemies to get extra fend damage.

You can and should cancel it if it is not hitting any targets, or the intended target.

Hi thnks for replying.
Is Fend more effective than basic attack usually?
How to cancel Fend?

you can cancel fend by moving your hero. i believe you can also press the E button a second time to cancel, though i’m not certain ‘cause i always just do the move-to-cancel thing

fend has the potential to deal a lot of damage, but using it puts you in danger; suddenly you’re in melee range, AND your trait is inactive for the entire duration of fend. a lot of the time you’re better off just using it to close the distance between yourself and an enemy and/or to finish off a low-health enemy

If you plan Cassia vs butcher or johanna. I recommend the lvl 4 where the blind autocast when stunned. Its really awesome because it makes butcher charges useless

4 Inner light
Whenever Cassia is Stunned or Rooted, Blinding Light is cast at her location.
This effect has a 6 second cooldown.
Passive: Blinding Light’s radius is increased by 25%.

Best Cassia build is AA build. Her whole kit is made to be an auto attack kinda hero.

Build: Charged Strikes, Ring of the Leech, Surge of Light, Either ultimate, Grounding Bolt, Martial Law, Titan’s Revenge.

Use Charged Strikes whenever it’s available because it’s REALLY good damage and it bounces to the backline.

Use her E only to close the gap between you and the enemy, then cancel it and keep auto attacking. You do much more damage that way. Also never just use your E to do damage. A standing still target is a dead target.

Use her blinds to both peel for your team and to do extra damage on your AAs (really good combo with Charged Strikes).

Some people will come here saying her Q build is pretty good, and while her Q build is actually fine, if you want a poke hero there’s infinite options for that. Her main strenght is her AA build while stutter stepping to proc her trait.

Agreed, although with other blinders in team(Lili, Jo, Artanis) I like seraph at level 1. +100% basic attack damage is absurd.

It is fine to use charged strike on a minion and just let it bounce to ANY hero? Is War Traveler a good talent?

Casting blind before fend will make it much more effective, because any damage against blind opponents is greatly increased.
The best synergy with Cassia easily has to be Li Li with how consistently she can activate Cassia’s damage bonus

two things about blind:

  1. Cassia deals increased damage to blind targets (as posted before) which includes attack and abilities.
  2. Her trait reduces attacks by enemy heroes while she’s moving; since fend has her channel in place, she loses her trait activation, so blinding targets offsets the attack damage she would take when she’s not stutter-stepping.

Charged strikes is fine to use to bounce to minion (or merc) units to bounce to an enemy hero, though after 1-2 hits, they usually back away till the cd goes down. However, the bounce range does give her some extra potential poke (early) against heroes that would otherwise try to outrange cassia and steer clear of her blind (for the lvl 1 blind-boost talent for 100% extra aa damage)

War traveler is a ‘better’ talent than is usually given credit for the ability, though I would generally only use it if I were going to take the quest/regen talent at 4 – since that heal only triggers while walking, mounting up offsets the regen, so the extra speed helps move between lanes for that heal. However, I’d only take the lvl 4 regen/quest if there’s remotely a chance to complete the quest, which usually requires… an overwatch hero be on the other side.

extra perc for War traveler is its a decent training tool for stutter-stepping; the speed bonus is lost only if cassia stops or casts, so if you’re just using attacks and movement, the bonus won’t be lost – stutter properly, and you can attack and keep the bonus.

Fend-canceling is useful not just in case there isn’t a target to keep hittng, but since Fend is a charging-ability, it can be used as a gap-closing move (get closer to the target) or even timed to avoid certain aoe effects – or even to bait out spell if the other side thinks you’re going to hold the channel.

Yes, it’s definitely fine. Abuse that mechanic a lot and you’ll deal a lot of damage. Just remember it doesn’t bounce when you attack structures (it used to and it was soooo good).

War Traveler is not good. Surge of Light is really easy to proc and it does a lot of AoE damage.

Just to point out her Q used to be much better because it had much higher scaling than normal, at 4.5%, but since they nerfed the scaling its definitely fallen off as it lost power. So yeah its much harder to pick over her AA build nowadays since as you already noted other assassins would do better at using spells to poke. Honestly, I’m not even sure who still swears by it after the nerf to the scaling really.

I prefer War Traveller over Surge of Light.

Yes and no. When fending you lose your trait armor making you more vulnerable. Additionally if your team is blind heavy you can capitalize off the extra auto attack damage talent at level 1 a lot to deal good auto attack damage. Fend is also vulnerable to CC like silence.

As long as you are stutter stepping you can attack while still maintaining the trait armor and even the movement speed bonus.

Nothing stops the butcher from cancelling charge before the stun to close distance.

Seraph’s Hymn can be a better level 1 if your team has a lot of sources of blind. The damage per hit can quickly dispatch squishy heroes.

It gives her ~380 auto attack DPS against blinded heroes at level 0. To put it in perspective that is considerably larger than what melee Greymane does early game.

War Traveler gives her +15% movement speed in combat making it very hard for enemies to run away as well as for enemies to chase her. It also does not rely on taking damage, which is not something Cassia is good at given her mediocre health sustain and no escape abilities.

For auto attack I usually go
Seraph’s Hymn
Inner Light (good healer) / Ring of the Leech (no or weak healer)
War Traveler
Ball Lightning (thanks to War Traveler it is hard for most lone enemies to exit the range)
Grounding Bolt
Martial Law
Titan’s Revenge (need more range or lots of armor) / Infinite Lightning

It is my go to build for her in ARAM. Yes other heroes are better at poke, but chances are not the other hero choices I had. Auto attack is very risky due to her lack of escapes, especially without the +15% faster movement. If your team falls behind it leaves you in a bad situation as it is suicide to enter auto attack range and your only long range option, Q, is left weak. With Q you can always spam bolts at the enemy no matter how bad things get.

Don’t underrate the other options just because Surge is (also) a good talent. War Traveler is also useful. The move speed is excellent for dodging skillshots (kinda mandatory given your frailty) and catching enemies. And Impale is also quite strong if you can get your Fends in, a 50% dmg boost to Fend actually outdamages Surge of Light.

Blinding light then fend is usually the way to go but I’d recommend against leading with that combo. Unless you talent into fend, it doesn’t do much damage and it puts your blind on cd. It’s decent as a finisher though. The cd on blind is quite long so save it for priority targets (butcher, zuljin, genji,…)

Definitely cancel fend if you missed or if it ends up putting you out of position or if genji is deflecting it lol. To capitalize on her trait, you gotta keep moving always so fend is a little dangerous to use willy-nilly.

I try and capitalize on lightning fury’s split. If you’re taking camps, the split will help with extra damage. Hitting the gate dead on will split and deal damage to towers. Or, if someone is hiding behind their gate, using Q at an angle can sometimes get the split to hit enemies on the other side. If a minion wave is walking in single file, I’ll try and hit it from the side so the split damages the entire wave. Also, enemy heroes hit with the split count towards Q stacks if you go with the quest at lvl 1.

I almost never go valkyrie ult. There used to be a bug where if you move after casting it, the target wouldn’t get pulled towards you. Idk of they ever fixed it.

Then why does she charge at the first place?

Thnks for the replies! Is it ok to get the lightning fury level 1 talent if I go the Fend build? ( I am really horrible with the AA build not sure why)
If I use war traveller, is it ok to omit mounting all together?

To close distance mostly since it gives Butcher like 200-300% movement speed. The little stun is just a bonus.

Q build Cassia is like Q build Lunara - pick something else that does it much better.
