Problem
I have a new 240hz monitor and hots works great in 240hz (you can tell because the map scroll is very fluid) and I have verified using speccy to make sure its 240hz. The only problem is when I alt-tab out of heroes. When I alt tab out of heroes, and then resume by tabbing back into heroes, the 240hz switches to 60hz. Even though the graphics menu option says 240hz, I can tell its 60hz but labeled incorrectly as 240hz because it’s choppy and laggy when using the mouse to pan the camera around. Only if I don’t tab out does it work fluid. To fix it, I change the setting to 120hz, then back to 240hz and it fixes it. I don’t want to not be able to alt-tab out. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
Solution
- goto windows search and type “display settings”
- scroll down and click on “advanced display settings”
- from the dropdown under “Choose display,” select the current display you are using that you wish to be 144/240hz, for example “Display 1: DELL AW2518HF”
- under “Display information,” click on "Display adapter properties for Display 1 (or display 2 if the second display is the one you wish to make 144/244hz.
- from the new “Generic PnP Monitor” window that pops up, select the “Monitor” tab
- under “Monitor settings,” open the dropdown menu under “Screen refresh rate” and select 144/240hz.
- Now that the global display settings have been changed for your computer, you will need to finalize the process by opening Heroes.
- Open heroes of the storm, go into ingame settings > graphics, then from the dropdown menu for “refresh rate,” select “Default.”
Explanation
selecting 144/240hz from the ingame graphics settings menu will only apply until you alt-tab out of the application. The proper way to use your 144/240hz monitor is to change your global graphics settings for your entire PC, and allow Heroes to grab the default graphics profile that you set.
