I was playing ranked matches all morning. It was starting to take forever for a match-up. Which is odd, since i am only rank 17. Then, I was matched with a player that had the name “Your Opponent” which had no Rank. I guess Hearthstone is not doing as well as they would have you believe, considering the are running bots to fill player spots. I have the screen shot. This is not the first time. It has happen in tavern brawl also.
It’s not a bot. If your opponent flags themself to appear offline you’ll see “Your Opponent” for their name and no rank is displayed. Next time it happens after the match ends, go to the option to add the last played player as a friend and you’ll see their BattleTag.

“Your Opponent” can also happen with connection issues. Yours or theirs and the name and rank info is not sent. Just as you described a symptom of.

I’ve been seeing this a bit more than usual recently.
I put it down, as said, to bad connections, although i don’t really know for sure. Hadn’t heard of the appear offline no name shown until adding as a friend scenario, thanks for posting.

I know right. I play at rank 5 and the 10 second wait to find another rank 5 (top 2% of the player base fyi) must be a bot when i see that. 100% bots down here let me tell you.
You can add them after match to see they do have an actual player name. Now if they do have an actual player name, why would they be hiding it with Your Opponent, if they were a bot?
Ever played Fortnite? Good players that have a bunch of OP gear go in as “no-skins” (they look like total newbies to the game, no loot …) kinda sneak under the radar, so to speak – then they totally PWN everyone. Ticks EVERYONE off.
So yeah, it happens. A LOT.

no one playing Rank games on ground how toxic Rank has gotten with Priest stealing and ruining your combos and Mage doing 30+ damage while you sit there hence why it take so long
Next Your opponent thing is name not loading in right it always happening to others time to time again

Your opponent is a 5 diamond rank or you played with a legendary rank. There is confusion, there is in the search for opponents. I was in the legendary rank, and I played with platinum) Buddy, you’ve been set up. and you most likely lost, because the opponent’s skill was very high and strong?
I agree, since it is a multiplayer game, it is very bad when I can’t have acess to my opponent’s nickname. Such a shame.
Contact Blizzard. They’ll tell you what they think of you and your opponent.

Actually as a programmer for Blizzard the “your opponent” is a bot. There are thousands of bots so we use a random name generator which is why when you add the tag you still see a name.
