Fizzle was used in a way of creating an endless loop, and just as happened to “Open the Waygate” (infinite turns with Grommath), this nerf was totally justified.
Same goes with Shaffar in Rogue, the abuse of the card totally justified the nerf.
DK swarm: thanks to Death Growl, this deck is among the 5 or top 10. It is not the new card miniset that has to be corrected in any way, it’s the abuse of Death Growl. And as you certainly already know, this card rotates out from standard soon. So in the end the DK deck will get quite “nerfed” without it.
Finally, you always have the option when you see Death Growl applied on the Zerg buffing minion on turn 5 to “concede” (in fact, I sometimes do so, and it saves me some useless minutes).
Anyway, I think it’s better not to overthink of the Patch outcome if you disagree. But I really think it was very justified.
With no infestor in hand, the deck just runs a bunch of 1/1 , 2/2 , 2/5 and the biggest stat in the list 5/3 which also requires board control. No taunts or lifesteal and the only reliable board clear is a 6/7 mana kerrigan. Infestor is its gas without it, it’s a fiat cinquicento. As long as it has bucaneer+infestor or zergling+ death growl+ infestor game is over.
Infestor can be found by Brood Queen too. The deck is more powerful if it Death Growls on 2 minions ASAP but it’s nowhere near dead if it does it late.
People like to pretend that Zerg DK is “for noobs” but it has a high skill cap and the proof is the top 1K of Legend has an easy ~54% win rate with it.
In case you wonder why the skill cap is high, it’s especially because it can do subtle important decisions at the right moment with Viper.
I know that. Speaking from a personal experience. Double red version is more consistent than double frost imo. Double frost only exists for the turn 3 high roll.
Zerg DK was placed in the tier 2 in the last Vicious Syndicate podcast (and tier 3 before infinite sham nerfs). So it is not my personal experience only, but statistics.
And I am top 500 rank
If a deck is not strong, it doesn’t mean this deck never wins; I’ve lost a game vs syf who played zerg DK, for ex
I want bartender to be removed from the game. What a POS card. whoever designed it AND the one who approved it, should have their employment terminated.
They do it because some meta trends of low ranks are skill issues and can be fixed by players. Other way may lead to absurd situations like nerfing smth like murloc mage (I mean smth that can’t be taken seriously by diamond players) bc some bronze 5 players can’t beat it.
It’s just logical to look at high ranks while speaking about balance issues.
As I said, this deck is playable (everywhere), it is probably tier 2-3, some top players (syf for ex) pilot it and make me feel unhappy too when they win. But I understand that it doesn’t mean that this deck is broken.
Some decks are more dangerous. Terran shaman is the strongest one according to statistics. Zerg hunter can have big minions on the board on turns 2-3. Yes, hunter’s buffs don’t work as an aura effect. But this knowledge doesn’t help when you have no answer to the early 5-5 or 7-4 two zergs on the board
