Wild packs after rotation

I bought several wild packs after the yearly rotation hoping to open the cards that were added to the legacy set; however, they were not in the first few packs opened even though I never owned their “legacy set” version. Do I need to open legacy packs to get them or are they being tracked incorrectly (i.e., are they tracked as me having owned them because they were in the core set)?

Edit: since I left out this key detail originally, I already own all other common and rare cards in all wild sets, so I was pretty sure duplicate protection should have guaranteed those cards in the first few packs.

If you want Classic cards then is is best to use Classic packs.

Wild Packs have too many other random sets to select from. So bad luck is not a game bug.

I have all other commons and rare wild cards, so I should have opened the “new” cards in the first few packs

I believe the way the multiple set packs works, is that it determines the rarity of a card first like normal. Then it determines the set of the card. That is why the randomness.

It does not just determine rarity and then use that as the whole card pool to select from. This is why Classic Packs is best if that is the cards you are looking for.

duplicate protection should have guaranteed I opened common and rare cards I don’t own first. in this case, since I have all other wild common and rare cards, I should have gotten the “new” cards that were added to the legacy set from last years core set. It didn’t work that way, which makes me think it isn’t working as intended. it seems to be set to track that I already “owned” the cards from when they were the core set. maybe that is intended behavior, but it certainly wasn’t expected

I feel fairly certain that even if I were to open classic packs at this point they wouldn’t be in the first few packs I opened even though they are the only common and rare cards I don’t have in the classic set as well.

You probably disenchanted some common or rare cards from the classic set at some point, remember this eliminates duplicate protection, it sucks, but my guess is that this is what’s happening (i have the same problem by the way, hopefully they fix at some point, won’t open my wild packs for the time being)

as I think I posted earlier, I own every card. I don’t disenchant wild cards because I play wild a lot. I’m positive that isn’t the problem

OP is actually correct. I also own all commons and rares of the Legacy set prior to rotation. Duplicate protection is definitely not working for the two commons and four rares that were just added because of Core Set changes. I suggest just waiting until then.

For anyone else wondering the same thing, a community manager clarified in another thread that this is expected behavior. While I can’t say I understand why old core set cards can’t be opened in card packs, that seems to address the question. Perhaps a community manager should close the thread.

That’s very strange that they would not recognize it as a bug. Do you know where that thread is?

Likely because cards in packs come from existing expansion packs. Core, Legacy and Adventure only expansions do not have card packs of their own.

Thanks, it sounds like they changed how Wild packs work, then. (they used to contain Core Set cards, despite being redundant at the time as no core set cards were rotated out yet)

It would never have contain Core cards, but the original version from the appropriate expansion. Certainly had reports of people getting these kind of cards but not being able to disenchant them. The reason being is that the Collection manager would display Core cards over original expansion cards to reduce confusion and clutter.
