You’re correct. LOL does not show MMR, but Dota 2 definitely show it.
Blizzard is traditionally a very “Apple” company; meaning they prefer good Art over having perfect technical integrity; they prefer the “feel good” over the “technically there’s a better way”.
In this situation that translates often to “our players will get ANNOYED if they see their rank is thousands of places below where they thought it is” (“participation trophies” as someone said).
It also explains why some people can’t stop bragging they are in a their Legend rank; it’s what feeds their ego; it has nothing to do with conveying technical gameplay information.

Silly statement dressed up as wisdom… Your not telling me how many times a day you scratch your crotch is a win win.
Not telling you something, and denying you access to information are 2 vastly different things. Until you realise that, we have nothing to talk about.

This is a video game company I was asking about, not the US government hiding secrets.
I’m now convinced that I will never get the answer.
I’ll just have to draw my own conclusions based off the helpful responses everyone provided.
