Why is DH OTK still a thing?

With all the cards removed from the core set and/or nerfed to reduce OTK/un-interactive decks for other classes such as : Frost bolt gone, Eviscerate gone, Malygos no longer granting spell power, and many other such changes to rid the meta of these type of decks… Why does DH still have a relatively easy to accomplish OTK deck with Felscream Blast? Hell the deck actually works better now thanks to Talented Arcanist.

At the very least perhaps they should nerf Felscream Blast to only target enemy minions so you have some option to avoid the non-interactive OTK by avoiding playing too many minions.

Priest had to have one legendary hall of famed and Mind Blast removed as a win condition just because of these types of OTK decks were frowned upon and mage lost Sorcerers Apprentice and Frost Bolt for the same types of reasons. It just feels inconsistent to nerf this kind of deck for some classes and leave it in place for DH.

Yes, I am aware DH isn’t a strong class right now but the point is consistency in game design/changes more than crying about a broken card combo.

Whatever gave you that impression? Just because some metas are more or less hostile to OTK decks it doesn’t mean that style of deck is “frowned upon.” At best, you could conclude that the devs don’t want certain classes to have viable OTK decks, but if they really didn’t want OTK decks to be viable, they would stop printing cards that enable them.

And it’s not just DH: both Rogue and Hunter have OTK decks right now. Yes, none of these decks are particularly good, but they still exist (and might become stronger in future expansions).

Nearly every OTK deck in standard has been nerfed at some point during the games history so clearly Blizzard doesn’t approve of them as far as game design goes. In wild they run rampant by comparison.

Gallery Priest wasn’t nerfed.
The various Mecha’thun decks weren’t nerfed (Bloodbloom was nerfed due to Darkest Hour Warlock, not Mecha’thun).
Malygos Druid (the Year of the Phoenix version) wasn’t nerfed.
Malygos Rogue was also never nerfed.
Leoroxx OTK hasn’t been nerfed (yet).

The only OTK decks that get nerfed are those (in Wild, usually) that don’t give opponents time to counter, like Death Star Druid or Hysteria Warlock.

OTK decks only get nerfed if the OTK is extremely easy and quick to pull off.

Almost all OTK decks suffer from the same problem - lack of survival against aggro and midrange to get to the OTK. OTK really only works vs slow decks. An OTK deck will never be top deck, and as soon as it is it will get nerfed. I can’t ever remember a time an OTK was the #1 deck and didn’t get nerfed. They only exist to help keep slower decks to a minimum.

Malygos was changed with core set due to potential OTK abuse and interactions with the new cards/sets. Getting rid of spell power on Malygos opened up a lot for options for card design that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. Cards like Celestial Alignment or some of the new rogue cards would have been absolutely broken with +5 spell power Malygos still in the game.

Having to draw your entire deck, have no minions and purge your entire hand was more than enough to counter the OTK ability of Mecha’thun. No real way to nerf such a card once you have settled on that kind of card design.

As far as Leoroxx at least you have limited counterplays against it compared to DH OTK or many of the OTK decks of the past that were as they say “fun and interactive”.
