Going through my collection now to eliminate cards I have duplicates of and finding that there are a few cards that I know for a fact that I had and now don’t have anymore. They are all legacy cards, but were part of expansions. Malygos the Spellweaver for example. There is no way I did not have that. And to recraft the golden version is a lot of dust.
This card was part of the core set. The core set was changed earlier this year.
If you never crafted this card yourself or pulled it from packs then you didn’t own it.
Here is a list of all the cards which rotated out and rotated in:

That’s impossible
If a card was part of an expansion then it’s not legacy
Legacy is only for cards that were not part of an expansion
Never tell blizzard what’s impossible
Also never asked blizzard how what’s possible
Legacy is a combination of other sets which are no longer available.
However, the issue here isn’t legacy cards (which you do own), but CORE cards (which you don’t).
The problem is that people who “eliminate duplicates”, may not understand the way the core set works. You never own any core cards. They are “on loan” to you while they are in the core set, and because they are “on loan”, they cannot be disenchanted.
Have a look at any core card in your collection. Any of them. You will see these exact words:
Uncraftable
Core Set cards cannot be disenchanted or crafted
Say you have the original Malygos (or whatever). It is then added to the core set, meaning you have a duplicate: one is a card from a collectible set which you own (the legacy set in this case) and can be disenchanted, and one from the core set, which you do not own, and cannot be disenchanted.
So, you may have noticed you had 2 copies of Malygos, and dusted one of them. You can’t disenchant the core copy, so you disenchant the legacy copy that you do/did own.
Later, the card leaves the core set, and the core copy, which was never yours, and never disenchantable, disappears (and is replaced by a different card that has joined the core set.)
But the legacy copy that you disenchanted as a “duplicate” is gone for good.
If that’s what happened, it means you got 400 dust for your legacy copy at the time you dusted it, or 1600 if it was golden.
What you need to remember is that any core card is only temporary, it is effectively “on loan” while it is in the core set, and if it is ever removed from the core set, you no longer have access to it.
This means if you disenchant a permanent copy, and the on-loan core copy subsequently leaves, you will not have access to either copy.
And, while “going through your collection” if you have dusted any more “duplicates” of card in the core set, you will no longer own those if/ when they rotate out of standard.
Yes, it was in your collection, on loan from Blizzard as part of the Core set.
Do you know about the Core set? It is a large group of cards that Blizzard loans to everyone for free. You can use these cards in your decks, but you do not own them. They are only on loan.
The Core set changes every year. Blizzard adds some cards and removes others, to keep it fresh.
This is what happened to Malygos Spellweaver. It was removed in April 2025 for the yearly rotation.
So, it was in Core, but now it’s gone. If you want to keep using it, you’ll have to craft it.
Nobody stole from you.
Blizzard is definitely stealing from you, but not in this way, but in much more subtle ways, stealing your health, time (your most precious thing) and money, telling you that everything is random but in reality nothing is, matchmaking, the new arena, the expansions are all made to steal from you
