Why are people so angry about the heroic brawl this time?

this time
we got a quest to “play 1 game” to get our weekly pack

as far as i know the complain about this tavern brawl pretty much been earning one less pack

now we can get the pack and those who have the extra gold can enjoy this brawl

This isn’t a Tavern Brawl signature unique side game mechanic. This is a tournament using the cards you own, aka Ranked with a max of 12 wins. Spending 1000 gold on this in the hopes of receiving big rewards is only achievable if your ranked deck can already place you in elite status. The cost vs payout here means the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

This brawl could be designed infinitely better.

Heroic tavern brawl has always been the worst gold to benefit ratio. The average player will end up losing money.

Putting a quest behind it is even more of a loss.

And, more importantly, it always comes out right before the mini expansion in hopes you’ve spent gold on the brawl and now don’t have enough to get the mini set so you have to spend money instead. That is truly the real intent.

They attached a skin to get at least 3-3 record as a scummy way to siphon your gold in a brawl where many people just aren’t good enough in this style of gameplay to ever get 3 wins. They are feeding on peoples Fear Of Missing Out as a scummy way to bleed the player base. So people are paying just for a chance to get something they might never be able to get and keep paying because they don’t want to miss out and the miss out anyway.

Very well put.

I’ve been really tempted to try it out, especially with the quest, but I know I’m not good enough with current meta decks to even stand a chance. I’m incredibly thankful for the forum warning me away from this gold sink.

Actually, it’s just three wins. Doesn’t specify the same run… You can try five or six times to get your three wins!!

I think it’s more of ‘the majority of players will end up losing money (UPD: or gold)’, if you look at the numbers.

For example, one could watch these videos:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAx612hnnZo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D62M9b4V6r8

Not that I’m a particular fan or promoter of OG, although I respect the good work he’s done, but I find these materials informative, including the figures, and worth looking into if one considers the tavern brawl in question (it’s not the first ‘heroic’ one he’s analysed either, by the way, and it generally tends to be the same thing).

Yes, there’s that, at least, this time.

Except that it still looks like a bad deal, and there’s a ‘carrot’ in the form of a skin that they’re hanging out in front of the players to lure them into it.

There’d probably be a lot fewer people angry about it if the free pack quest wasn’t titled “call of the brawl”. Lots of people are being tricked into thinking it has to be a game of the tavern brawl. Meanwhile blizzard will receive none of the blame as the community will just say it’s the players’ fault for being tricked. This is the c’thanks bundle all over again.

Excuse me, but how are people being ‘tricked’ if they can’t even read properly? Yeah, I know, my bemoaning low reading skills on this forum is probably getting tiresome, but still — what’s it with all this blaming someone else for one’s own stupidity?

And what of it? I’m not familiar with it, but I’ve found this info:

https://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/give-cthanks-bundle-now-available-20-scholomance-packs-2x-darkmoon-legendary-for-e19-99-available-until-december-7/

So, what’s unusual about it?

The name would lead people to believe it was the pack madness at the darkmoon faire (the one that c’thun the shattered comes from), which it wasn’t.

Where are people so angry?

I was someone disappointed they are slotting in a heroic brawl this week. I dont care for the skin, sure if they had spend a 1000 gold get a skin I would. But historically heroic brawls have been a waste of time.

In the end I logged on, got 2nd in a bg, and a deck popped giving me a deck ie 40 dust, and I was ehh? did I miss a quest.

Why are historically heroic brawls a waste of time.

Generally unless you are playing a deck that you would be competitive with at @ diamond 5, you are just going to lose 3 games. wow that’s a fun use of 1000 gold.

Not only that alot of these cosmetics become available for purchase either gold(way maybe not now since the introduction of runes: runes=lame)

So its much better to be patient and wait til its available again. I got Tyrande and Kadgar that way, since when I started hs they were no longer available.

I know I know, most peeps aint patient and feel like they’re “missing out.”

Its a scummy practice for sure.

Alright. I was inactive when those expansions were current (and thus didn’t see the bundle either), so I might not have thought of such nuances; still, there’s even a big picture of those Scholomance packs (for those who don’t like to read) on the screenshot, so it’s a bit hard for me to classify this as a case with a tricky ‘fine print’ or such. Otherwise, looks more or less like an ordinary deal that they offer (20 euros/dollars per 20 packs, which is the ordinary price, plus two legendary cards, which doesn’t seem that bad) — not that I’ve spent any money on these anyway, but it doesn’t stand out in terms of what’s offered for its price. The ‘heroic tavern brawl’, on the other hand, does — in fact, seems like a remarkably bad deal.

I’ll admit, as soon as I saw the heroic brawliseum quests pop, I became emotionally enraged and x’ed them as fast as possible before realizing that one of the quests was actually just play 1 game in any mode. Out of the corner of my eye for a brief second of glancing I misled myself into thinking it was play 1 game of heroic brawliseum, but yes, it was in fact 1 game in any mode. It’s ok though, I’m sitting on 36k gold, have most of the cards I need, and don’t even really need packs right now.

I’ll just say it was purposefully closing the quest to put more emphasis on the fact that I detest the heroic brawliseum.

Not so stoic, eh? :grinning: It’s okay.

:grinning: Good one. The most important thing for you is to do as you please and have fun with it, if you ask me — so let’s say you’ve made your point, rationally or otherwise. :grinning:

?
how ? the quest just says “play a game” c

This is the part that got me. It’s clear they did it with the intention to pull more people in knowing they would not be able to get the skin in less than 2 runs.

Nah, a 12 win/3 loss format is a 3 win average. So its an even split between those who do and those who dont get it in a single run.

For the record, I dont support the format, or more accurately how they advertise it in game. They should definitely show, in game/deck creation page, the reward structure, alongside the disclaimer they have, so people can visibly see just how unlikely they are just to break even in the H-brawl.

IDK, I paid 1000 gold for a portrait for a class I intend to “main” for a while. Just go in with a tier 1 meta deck and bulldoze your way to 3 wins. I hope it doesn’t sound detached, but why would you go into this “almost a tourney” version of ranked ladder with anything less than a tier 1 deck?
