Whenever I consider returning, this is why I don't

I played from beta → 2017. The main reason I quit, I felt new “expansions” came out far too often. I was a free to play - I didn’t buy packs for anything but gold. I grinded dailies. I only spent money if it was for an “adventure” mode. Fast forward, I got burnt out and didn’t want to force myself to do dailies or miss out on the gold, so I just stopped.

Now why I never came back, there’s no “catch up” mechanic. Last I played, I did wild mode. As someone who collected as many cards as I could and have OCD, i hated how many cards I would just never have/couldn’t afford. Most legendaries.

Now the card list has to be so insanely long, there’s 0 catch up options for someone to come back. If Hearthstone had a monthly fee that gave you access to ALL THE CARDS, i’d 100% come back and play. But the RNG over opening packs and the shear amount of expansions released etc is what pushed me away.

There are plenty of catchup mechanics.

I came back for Whizbang expansion after a several year break so didn’t have any recent cards. I got a free gift of like 150-200 packs for just being away, a free decent deck of my choice of class with like 5 legendaries in it (I chose warrior cause it seemed like best value).

I also spent a few dollars to buy the 10 pack catchup bundle or whatever it was called where each pack gives you up to 50 cards instead of usual 5 - so that gave me like 400 cards. if you refuse to spend a few dollars to support a game that you grind so much then honestly that’s on you - being pure F2P and complaining is not a brag but just being silly and stubborn. But even totally free I got a crapton of free catchup stuff YMMV.

On top of that you get a lot of cards for ranking up in ladder and they seem to have constant special events too (didn’t exist last i played). i think I reached around level 300 on the rewards track (also didn’t exist back then; we got 10 gold per 3 wins) so that was around 15,000 gold without that much grinding. The game is actually quite generous now for free - a lot more than it used to be.

I’m now basically all caught up on collection. Have everything relevant for every class and then a bunch of random gimmicks I crafted. Reached legend every month including first month of being back.

I agree though that I think there are too many expansions too often. The rapid treadmill is a bit offputting and what caused me to quit.

Here’s the secret of the Gungeoner, I haven’t been buying viable packs for wild at allll. I was obsessed with trying to get the Rise of Shadows coin skin and every now and again I just look at what I own and see what I could do with any of it, and if I had anything I could do better with a new look at my resources. Follow your dream (coin) and love/a strategy will follow

That’s such a dumb request; it would most probably kill the game; it’s up there on the top 3 worst things you can do to this game.

I’m almost certain you confuse this game with World of Wacraft; there an expansion is very big; this is just has a bunch of cards.

A bunch of cards produces NETDECKS within only 2 weeks; this is very corrosive; even every 3 months it wouldn’t be bad.

Also it’s very dumb to take Wild seriously. They can barely balance standard if at all and Wild is multiple times more complex to balance.

It should be just removed from the UI and rewards as an equal alternative; it should have at least worse rewards; it probably sells cards.

stop complaining about wild if you don’t play it
just leave us alone and let us complain about wanting nerfs
