So there is a catch here. Achievements and items physically stored on your character or in the bank are intact. However, all drops including mounts, transmogs and battle pets can be deleted. Blizzard support will not help you if you do this so DO NOT risk it like I did, else you could find yourself on the receiving end of an effective account deletion for a temporary low level gear bump like me.
