Upgrading a legendary merc to max too hard?

Soo, here are the final results of my malfurion grinding. I put him on the team the moment he was crafted and some of the coins may be from the team random coin. He has been to a few other bounties but I mostly grinded his own to make it a somewhat valid test of how long you need to grind to max out a merc

Heroic runs tended to take between 10 and 15 min, so maxing out a legendary should take between 12.6 and 19 hours of straight gameplay in bounties (not including loading screens, doing stuff in camp, etc).

The extra coins needed to max him I got from packs gotten from tasks and daily.

The thing is, it seem like it’s harder to farm coins before you have the legendary crafted. This will require more investigating.

I would say that 30 runs a day is reasonable for going for it.

It’s hard to say if this is reasonable, but at least we know what the average will be.

Up to run 60 strangers appeared exactly 50% of the time after that the chance seems to drop, not sure what causes this of if it’s just set on a 30 run cycle.

The average coins per run were 14.5 per run (with him in the party). This seems consistent throughout the runs.

This was my experience in going straight for a merc. What do you guys think? Is it too hard, or maybe it’s too fast? I’m interested in what everyone else thinks.

ps: I got enough coin to max the epic and over 1k more than is needed for the rare

That bit could still be normal variance.

You get a total of 985 coins from a merc’s 18 tasks (source: https://www.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/comments/q95tno/mercenaries_task_rewards_table/ ) and how many total coins a specific merc requires to max depends on their equipment. Some have level 4 baseline (because there’s no upgrade) and others have all level 1 baseline.

Skills cost 475 (50 + 125 + 150 + 150) coins to max out each (1425 total) and level 1 equip costs 425 (100 + 150 + 175) coins each for a maximum total of 2700 coins required to max out a merc.

This means you need up to 1715 coins from bounties or random drops (other mercs’ tasks or packs) to max out a merc. If you don’t get random drops, that’s approximately 118 runs to max a Legendary. A merc with a level 4 baseline equipment (like Alexstrasza) needs 425 less coins, which is roughly equivalent to 29 runs. Any random drops will obviously reduce this further.

At first I got a consistency on a 10 run cycle where I was getting 5 strangers per 10 runs. At some point it didn’t exactly match it though, but it caught up on the 30th and the same happened by the 60th. It seems like it could be true. Ofc only way to prove it is for other people to present their findings.

When I started farming I finished the 18th tast 100 coin before Malf was maxed. So if you have more of him, you probably don’t need to farm only his quest before you finish his tasks.

try to build this team for consistent turn 1 wipe enemies

King Krush(19 dmg finisher(20 if you got all his stuff capped)(his left skill recast if you get a killing blow(gotta max out his gear piece for max dmg)

at least 45 dmg aoe on turn 1 using the 3 best…at least thats my 3 best char to wipe out opponent team to train my alts

i dont have all the merc so i could not tell you if there are some which can pull out bigger aoe

5 hour to max legendary mercenaries.
but i won’t discuss it because sonic the hedgehog will do a quick hotfixes.

i know how to do it but didn’t do it though.
i played with low upgrade mercenaries on fighting pit.

5 hours for every legendary, or specific ones?

To be clear , I was playing casually, not skipping animations etc. So the time could be faster, but I don’t think that’s indicative of the normal player
Also, I’m doing the heroic, for the expected higher task rate. The farming was really secondary. Farming normal is in general much faster when it comes to coins per min.

if that’s the case it doesn’t seem that bad to me, for a grindy game.
Grinding is the best part of the game: you level up stuff while playing the game. If the game is fun also farming is fun.

If 12-19 hours aren’t worth it to max a mercenary, then I think the game is not worthy at all: once you have all mercenaries maxed, you won’t enjoy the game more than when you were farming coins, so it is better to understand if the game is fun or not before wasting time
