Theorycraft What?

Can someone please explain the term “Theorycraft”. I have seen the term used as a deck type, as in Standard deck, Wild deck, Brawl deck, Theorcraft Deck…

Took me forever to figure out what everyone meant using the term Highlander also. I play regularly, and have since the beginning. Admittedly I don’t regularly read forums, listen to podcasts, follow paid players twitter feeds, or subscribe to the countless youtube channels that exist, but I have done all of those things many times… The only thing I don’t do would be attend event ( I didn’t do any of those things for Chutes and Ladders, Monopoly, or even Dungeons and Dragons either).

I remember those decks now called Highlander were called Reno… Am i wrong?

Thanks. Play Nice.

Theorycrafting just means building decks without actually testing them. The best example is when people come up with decks for a new expansion before the expansion is out: you can’t actually play with the new cards, so any decks “built” in this scenario are entirely theoretical. Hence, theorycrafting.

You’re not. But the new Reno card is Mage-only, so people use Highlander because it’s more accurate. The original Reno card from LoE was neutral, so any Highlander deck could (and often was) a Reno deck. Nowadays, only Mages can run Reno in Standard, which is probably why Highlander (or Singleton) is the preferred adjective for these decks.
