The REAL genius behind Hearthstone

The real genius of this game is the RNG. Let me explain further.

Chess is a simple game and as completely fair to both players as you can possibly get, aside from who goes first. Both players get the same pieces, all pieces make the same moves. Typically the more intelligent person will win.

And that’s the problem. Not very many people are smart. So not very many people will play chess. The majority of people out there know they are not very intelligent, and they know there’s a lot more intelligent people than them so why would they want to show up to play a game just to prove it right?

And that’s the reason Hearthstone is so popular. RNG evens out the playing field for average and below average intelligence to be able to compete with even the best in the world. From random lucky draws, to random lucky effects from cards, to random lucky picks in the arenas, random lucky effects in duels, it’s come down so that randomness will rule about 80-90% of this game.

Actual skill and intelligence has almost no consequences to whether you will win or not. Now of course making good plays and not wasting cards, getting as much value as you can is important. So yes some intelligence is a good thing. But if you were to take someone with a 90 IQ and play 100 matches of chess vs. someone who had a 150 IQ, they would likely lose all 100 matches.

Put those same players into Hearthstone duels and the 150 IQ might be lucky to squeak out say 60 wins out of 100. Possibly even 70. The point being simply cause RNG screws so many of us over so often, it allows all of the average people out there to compete.

And that’s where money comes in. The majority of people ARE average, or below average. They don’t want an intelligent game where only skill prevails. And this is where Blizzard succeeds so well. Not just in Hearthstone but in almost all of their games. WoW is an extremely simplified MMO compared to many others out there for example.

But Starcraft actually DOES require skill to play, and the highest skilled player will usually win. And it went free to play because there aren’t enough players. Makes sense now right?

Intelligent people who keep playing might be thinking to themselves, well I know for a fact I’m a better player than most of these people… so why do I keep losing? And they keep playing. Lesser intelligent people might be thinking, well today could be my LUCKY day! And THEY keep playing. Pretty flipping smart game design.

The thing is if you are intelligent you should be able to figure this out. And then realize no matter how hard you try you will never ‘beat’ this game. When you watch videos of the best players in the world playing the game and one match they are first, the next they are last, then the next they are somewhere in the middle it should make you wonder.

Race car drivers don’t end up in last place one race, first the next, then somewhere in the middle the next. They ‘usually’ place somewhere around the same almost every race. Because their skill dictates this, not RNG.

So yah that’s the real genius behind this game. Well done Blizzard.

Only thing for me to figure out now is if I want to keep playing a game knowing it’s rigged for lesser intelligent people to win simply cause luck wasn’t on my side that game. Money would probably be better spent on lotto tickets instead of this game.

that’s a big wall of text that i, an average hearthstone player, am too stupid to read or comprehend, so i guess you wasted a lot of time trying and failing to make people feel bad for playing a game they like

It wasn’t intended to offend anyone. It’s simply the truth that’s all.

If you can’t spend 2 minutes to read a post, why even be on the forums?

Mostly agree. HS is a game and it is supposed to entertain, win or lose. If you (not personally) are entertained only by wining then I do not think HS is the right game to invest your time and money in.

It is a card game… Did you know that right? If the word “shuffle” is a big part of it, what were us supposed to expect?

Really your post seems to have no other purpose but to be passive aggressive.

Also, I cant talk for everybody. But a lot of people (no the majority sadly) still build their own decks, and try to experiment. Yeah any one can play in “autopilot” and win a couple of games, but in order to be a “deck builder” you do need skill.

Yes. It is pay to win and RNG

I miss being able to solo queue Warrior bgs in Wow. I think I will enjoy the BC lower brackets when it releases

Yeah - Im pretty dumb too. I only looked at this because it happened to be on the computer monitor I was licking, while learning how to invest in doge coin. What was it all about?

I’m being quite serious when I say this, I didn’t write this to offend people. I was seriously complimenting Blizzards game design.

And it’s just a fact of life that some people are smarter than others. It’s not a bad thing, or a good thing. It’s just a thing. I’m smarter than most, and dumber than some. That doesn’t make me any better than anyone else though.

Stop being offended by where your intelligence sits in comparison to others. Learn to just be happy with who you are.

Stupid people like me are happy all the time (we dont any better). I hope you are happy with your aspergery weirdness.

You know MTG is another card game like this. It also has a “shuffle” effect of RNG.

But as for the rest of the game, it isn’t NEARLY AS CLOSE to RNG as this game. The cards do specific things, for the most part, at specific times to specific targets.

There’s no cards in that game where if an 8/8 dies, it can summon a 4/4 that has no effects or a 6/8 that copies your opponents cards drawn, or a 6/8 taunt reborn can’t be targeted. I mean that one card effect can quite literally be the difference between winning and losing a game.

Now you look at all the other effects of RNG from things like how magic missiles hits targets, what cards you get lucky enough to discover, which character you summon with your hero power- a 2/1 or a 6/1 taunt divine shield? It adds up very quickly to coming down to almost nothing but luck as to whether you win or lose.

And it’s addicting. That was my point of the post.

I quit playing MTG a long time ago because of the $ sink it became. I knew Hearthstone would probably get to that point too, just not so quickly. I actually miss the days when this game first came out. It wasn’t nearly as RNG as it is today and didn’t require nearly the $ people spend on it to get the cards they need.

Then expres yourself better. Your post didnt seem to have a sincerely purpose. According to you, you are not complaining, you dont want something to be change, supposedly you are making a “compliment” to the game. While it is clear that you are aware of your post being offensive.

Now it is clear to me that you have a problem with the curent state of the game:

Because RNG is more iportant than before, and because it is expensive. Then state it clear, and dont be sarcastic and toxic.

By comparing it to “10” other things that have nothing to do with HS. It seems that you just wanted to prove that HS it self is bad as what it is. Which again, is not constructive at all and it is just toxic.

Most viewers of this thread are avg or below avg.I bet my entire life experience(27 yo) that they all agree but they wont put in a heart or say anything positive in reply(i havent even scrolled down yet) bcz they are personally offended.I wonder how many times in my life I saw a fact and person who speaks it gets rejected bcz it hurt their little emotions.i agree with your post and will give it a heart.

I thought I expressed myself well enough, but perhaps I didn’t?

I said the game was designed well, it’s addictive, and for a long time I couldn’t put my finger on why I enjoyed it so much but was simultaneously getting more and more frustrated with the game as time goes on.

I finally just figured out why that’s all.
