Suggesting Ranked team play mode, 2x2 and 3x3

Hearthstone is foremost a 1x1 game. I was hoping to suggest 2x2 and 3x3 Ranked team play modes.

Structurally, this would require a pre-made team of two or three players to build pre-made decks to face off against an opposing team of two or three. The game table area would feature small “rows” for minions and other cards, and small hands of cards, one per player, four or six total. This would allow all of the players’ hands and cards out to fit in the game area.

Hovering your mouse over a small row or your/ally’s small hand would cause both the player’s row and hand to enlarge to normal size, while the mouse stays over it, so you could see what you or your allies have in hand or out in play. Or, enlarge and see what cards a given opponent has out in play. This would allow a player whose turn is not currently up to strategize what to do once his or her turn is up, and coordinate strategy with allies.

The players would need something like Discord with mics and headphones to communicate strategy with each other.

The goal would be to defeat all of the opposing players while at least one friendly player remains alive. The total amount of time per game would need to increase due to the larger number of players in the game.

Instead of just worrying about your own hand and cards out in play, you would now need to take into account your allies’ cards in hand and in play, and how they matter against what you have on your own. Your cards would now affect not only you but your allies and opponents. So, a Priest could play a card to Heal 8 life for a threatened ally player, or a Hunter could play a Secret on an ally’s deck so that an opponent attacking the ally would trigger the Secret. A Paladin could play Blood Matriarch Liadrian to give a friendly Death Knight’s mob of undead Rush and Divine Shields. The potential for strategies and depth of play would skyrocket.

The strategy and coordination between multiple players would allow some pretty insane combos, and would require the two or three teammates to coordinate building their decks and what cards they could play at a given time – but their opponents, likewise, would also have access to insane combos and strategies of their own. Blizzard, if they did this, would probably need to give access to cards specifically for such team play.

I think the presence of a structured Ranked multiplayer would increase the amount of fun in Hearthstone. You wouldn’t just need to take care of yourself and do everything yourself. Your friends could have your back in a massive brawl while you have theirs.

What do you guys think?

I would love a 2v2 format. That’s a great way to evolve the game.

There’s a problem. A single player playing both decks would probably be better than 2 different players playing 2.

I think I don’t have to read your paragraphs to agree that 2vs2 and 3vs3 is good for this game and should’ve happened years ago.

2v2 and 3v3 are bad ideas and almost no one would play them, to include its supposed supporters.

Uh huh. You offer no evidence for anything you say. K. Why are you like this?

Wait, and why are you responding to me? I was just agreeing with the OP. You’re such a troll.

It’s customary for the affirmative side of a debate to present evidence first. A plan that is asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

This is never how team games play out in reality. Instead the laid back player is despised by his teammates and blamed for the team’s loss. This is how it works in existing games like League of Legends.

With all due respect I don’t dedicate the last line of my posts to insults as a habit.

Edit: no one should really have to tell you this, but the civil thing that civil people do when they think they encounter a troll is: they flag them and DO NOT call them a troll.

I find it hard to believe enough people would form teams to fill out a team ranked mode in Hearthstone.

People don’t change.
Why else do you think they would still be posting almost everyday on posts with 7000+ posts to be deliberately trying to agitate people and calling it “civil debate”, “rhetoric”, “argumentative discussion” etc?

People don’t change. They grow.
And by the looks of it, they’re growing into a bigger and uglier and more cunning troll that gets by flagged posts more and more as a secret quote/unquote Blizzard shill that doesn’t want to see any positive change in Hearthstone.

You never refuted his point though.

And this is comming from someone who got banned for month and immediately made new account pretending he is his brother, right Bloodbane?

I am pretty sure Hearthstone multiplayer would require sufficient strategy and coordination that you wouldn’t want to team up with randoms.

If you’re playing with a friend/two friends and you have your decks coordinating with each other, what you’re saying wouldn’t be a problem. I imagine it would be pretty fun, that way.

This is just straight up an irredeemable flaw.

I don’t think there’s any inherent reason not to make it POSSIBLE to play with randoms. But I think the sort of card game this is, it would work better with people you know.

The reason I thnk it wouldn’t work with randoms is because of how much Hearthstone relies on strategy and card combos. Yes, theoretically you could team up with a random person, but it would be unlikely that the decks would have maximum possible synergy and symbiosis. If you team up with a friend and you two build the two decks to deliberately support each other, it would likely be more fun and less frustrating.

I wouldn’t call it “irredeemable.” But if you team up with randoms, the likelihood of the two decks working together well will be less. If you want to team up with randoms, go ahead, but as with any team game such with Overwatch, teaming with friends is better.

What I mean is, “could” and “should” are not the same. If you know the person and know what cards he or she uses, and vice versa, that would have more of a chance to win than randoms. Probably more fun, too.

Yes, this is true.

It also won’t work without randoms because 95% of Hearthstone players don’t even use the friends list. Except maybe to insult their previous opponent.

And if you do know what the friends list feature is you should realize how horrible it is for actually meeting new people.

It won’t work with randoms. It won’t work with friends. It just won’t work. Irredeemable.

Dude, no offense, but that seems less a legitimate concern and a lot more like you’re trying to make stuff up to oppose the idea for the sake of opposing the idea. The idea that a Hearthstone multiplayer mode wouldn’t work because willing players will find it “impossible” to find other people to play with is just plain silly.

If the 2x2 and 3x3 mode was actualized, it would be easy to find people to play with. You can easily make a thread here in this forum or on the Hearthstone sub-Reddit or on a Hearthstone Discord channel, looking for a partner or two to play with. And other people interested in multiplayer will reply. You might take a little while to find players who you solidly and consistently want on your team, but a little patience will take care of that.

That’s not just the case with this particular game, but ANY multiplayer game on the internet right now.

Less than 5% of players are willing to do this. You don’t understand how deeply unpopular things like this are.

Just by being a forum dweller you’re immediately deeply unusual. Me too ofc
