Sexualizing Characters

To Whom it may concern,

I’ve been playing Hearthstone for years and love the game so much! I’ve spent hundreds of dollars in the game and would love to keep playing it. I just have been feeling very discouraged lately. It’s not about the gameplay or any of that. You all do an amazing job regarding those issues. The problem that I chose to ignore for a long time and I just can’t keep quiet any longer is something that I’m sure all of you would understand. Recently I saw that a player was banned from competition because he was abusive to his partner. I’ve also seen that you all care about mental health issues.

Well, my issue relates to all of this. It is about the sexualization of characters in Hearthstone. A lot of the artwork in the game sexualizes and it is mostly towards women. Now I’ve known many people that have been abused and let me tell you that this is all related. We live in a society where sexualizing is a normal thing. We objectify the human body and it is mostly towards women. Constant objectification towards women leads to abuse and violence towards women because they are not seen as human beings anymore and just seen as objects. There is a lot of objectification in movies, tv shows, ads, video games… pretty much everywhere.
As a result, we take away the real values of a human being.

Not only that, but this just helps feed the prn industry as well. Studies have shown how consuming prn changes our brains and harms our mental health. It can lead to depression, feelings of loneliness, and anxiety. It also teaches us to objectify human beings and leads to violence since it changes our brains and makes us become desensitized, changing the way we view human beings.

So how am I relating all of this together? Well, normalizing the sexualization of women keeps our society from improving and is harmful to women and men. In the prn industry, it is all about objectification. This is why it is so easy for many of us to consume prnography. Because we just see it everywhere else besides the p*rn industry. Everywhere else is just normalizing it.

Like I mentioned before, this just harms our mental health and it makes it so easy for us to abuse each other. Now I am writing this because I want to kindly plea to stop objectifying the characters in Hearthstone. All of you have made a great game and have done a great job in maintaining it, but I just want Hearthstone to be a safe space to feel and not to contribute any more to the objectification towards women. My nephew is 10 years old and he loves this game as well. I wouldn’t want him or any of the kids who play Hearthstone as well to normalize the sexualization of women. I want all of us to have a safe place to be in Hearthstone.

Thanks to all of you for understanding this.

Ok, I’m going to bite. Where is the sexualization of women in this game? Keeping in mind they changed Jaina’s portrait ages and ages ago.

I cannot fathom the reason to why people bring up such issues in a card game forum.

Females of animal species (that includes us) evolved to attract men sexually, and vice-versa, but with more emphasis on power for female-to-male attraction. Other than that piece of biological reality in the face of “social science,” cards of all kinds in Hearthstone run the gamut from ugly, attractive, powerful, sniveling.

Can you elaborate what you mean?

Because the offenders were removed or altered a while back.

What’s your expectation? A winter fantasy world where everyone is wearing jackets? (Well everyone who identifies as female, since you don’t seem to have a problem with all the bare chested beef cakes)

There’s way too many shirtless male cards. Please add shirts on them

How will it be before Hearthstone sexualization becomes the biggest threat to humanity? We need to figure out a way to deal with this problem before we start sailing the cosmos and spread our corruption throughout the universe.

It doesn’t bother me, but Valeera looks like a prostitute in most of her skins. Not saying they should change it, but I mean, have you looked at her?

What did the old Jaina look like, btw?

Edit: Okay, I take that back. Valeera is only really sexualized in her default skin and the Diao Chan one. The other’s look pretty awesome, wish I had the pirate outfit.

Looking at some of the other heroes, there is an alternate druid hero named Lunara that is pretty sexualized too

How is default Valeera sexualized at all?

Nothing like a bit of political activism on the old hearthstone forums.

You don’t have to offend other people with your terrible topic that gets personal. All my life I have been trying to help the beautiful female sex, if I can be of any use to you. I have female friends and they are no different in terms of friendship from male friends. Friends always support each other and help in some way. Whoever offends my female friends will have to deal with Grommash’s huge fists. Grommash will quickly deal with the offenders of my female friends. It is unacceptable to offend women. This is offensive. Whoever does this has no honor in them. This is punishable. Whoever does this should be responsible for his actions and be punished.

Just look at her pose and outfit. If you don’t think she’s sexualized then I’m not sure what would count as sexualized for you. The pose she’s in is very reminiscent of old comic book covers where the characters would twist around to show off their assets as much as possible. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, because it doesn’t bother me at all, but it is an example of what we’re talking about.

Why do people feel the need to express propaganda and enforce opinions in a game…

Wonder Women is half naked…
Black widow is…well she could be dressed in polar outfits still would look awesome…

Why not take the discussion to Box Office or Hollywood for that matter…

I guess this pandemic changed people and now they just want to enforce their opinion everywere.

I dont see it. She has full armour up, blades are blocking the view and her pose is jumping to kill someone with the blades. Valeera is the rogue portrait right?

Maybe you are only looking at the thumbnail version? Try the full portrait.

Hah, you are right. Thumbnail doesnt show her body at all. Still it’s not that sexualized. Has clothes and all. No strings or bikini

No, I’m being serious. What do you mean? I didn’t buy the three kingdoms bundle in part because of that skin even though the Lu Bu one looks awesome.

  1. It’s basically a leotard and shouldn’t really be ‘turning on’ anyone.
  2. I had to put effort in and actually SEARCH for the bottom half of the image. If people are getting offended… don’t go looking!

“Incredible.” - Valeera (Wow)

I know right… Next thing we know we’ll all be wearing formal unisex outfits like in some private schools. He, or she references will be banned. Women will be forced to wrap up their breasts, and men having to slightly tape their package between their legs to hide their bulges. It’ll all seem like that old dystopian sci-fi flik from 1927, Metropolis. I’d be all automaton-iclly following with the others while Pink Floyd’s the wall was stuck on repeat in my head.

My friend you took the word right out of my mouth… Exactly.
