Scuse me, how is this balanced?

… Because its a late-game combination of cards, generates random minions, and requires setup in the form of sculpting an adequate hand? Idk what kind of response you wanted, but this is far from the most powerful thing you can do in Standard.

OP linked to a board that was generated by Phaoris. Mostly a bunch of mediocre mid-cost minions with a single Kalecgos

But how IS a raven like a writing desk?

Oh I see, reading your sentence for a moment without reference to hearthstone, since we were talking about the imgur website, I thought you meant that it is a website (as in a “board”) managed by “Phaoris” (which sounds like a reference to a low-standard webmaster), mostly taken care of by a bunch of mediocre staff.

Better question would be; how is it not balanced?

Why do you seek balance in HS for gods sake? Its so far from being balanced as it could be.

Nobody cares. There is a lot of broken stuff, combos and synergy effects. Is it balanced? Bloody hell no. Is it broken more than other stuff in a game? Bloody hell no.

To be fair to the OP, it did happen on turn 4.

To the OP, you got beat by a meme deck which is built to pull Phaoris with Prismatic Lens so you are guaranteed a 10 mana spell in your deck. It is as fair as you running at Treant Druid deck that can generate minions at the drop of a hat.

It’s not fair in terms of the match. Because Druid has 0 options for board clear. In fact most classes have 0 options for board clear of that level for turn 4.

It’s fair in terms of the grand scheme of the game. It’s a hard thing to pull off and it won’t always happen.

High roll unfortunately exists and is pushed by Blizzard until it becomes a problem in the meta. Then they have to nerf it. Or just leave it until the next rotation.

Until it becomes a problem in the meta you just have to say “It was one game, time for the next.” Unfortunately otherwise Blizzard doesn’t care if you get high rolled.

I can’t post links for some reason, but I have a few “interesting” screen shots myself. Recently, I have experience turn 3 and 4 madness. One Paladin put 19 damage on the board by turn 3. Game over.

I am seeing this more and more recently in response to the huge power potential of turn 5

You must be new to the game. Don’t worry OP, you’ll get used to it. Trust me. One day, your opponent will OTK you on turn one and you’ll say “Hahahahahaha, only in Hearthstone!”
Seriously, learn to laugh at these moments.

It happens turn 4 with coin Prismatic on 3. It’s horrible. A deck that takes any semblance of strategy and makes it into a coin flip.

Did you queue into a class that has a full board clear, draw Prismatic, and draw Phaoris? The winner of each game is decided by answering these 3 questions and nothing else.

Thankfully Prismatic Lens is going Wild and we won’t see it for much longer.

Paladin doesn’t even have a full board clear (barring some multicard combo). Let alone a full board clear by turn 4.

It is kind of funny though. This is like an anti-aggro combo deck. It would die to Control or anything that can slow down tempo, but it will destroy anything that is hitting fast with small minions. So it is the opposite of what a Combo should be capable of doing.

Because a 4 mana 7/7 wasn’t good enough.

But seriously because Blizzard doesn’t test this kind of stuff. They let it go because its a meme deck that isn’t a top meta deck. I hate this kind of high roll BS that started with Unstable Portal and only gets worse every expansion but Blizzard keeps making it and pushing it further because it not Unerfed 60% level of win rate. Its terrible design to have an I win wombo combo like this even if its a 1 in a 1000000 chance of happening.

Why? How is getting highrolled by an otherwise bad deck any different than a control player never drawing answers, or an aggro player starting the game with all their highest-cost cards?

Sometimes people get unlucky. It’s baked into the design of the game.

You can draw out of being agro and starting with all your high cost costs or having no answers with control with a top deck. You can’t draw out of turn 4 I win combo full beefy board best we have is 5 mana Frost nova Doomsayer that lets you stabilize after taking 20 damage. We also have Brawl and Mass Hysteria which might not even do anything as you can just easily die after you cast them depending on what is left. Every other class is screwed they are dead before they can do anything with maybe Rogue having a chance if they generated the right spell and can cast it with possible Preperation assistance.

Sometimes. Sometimes you don’t top deck an answer, and you lose. Sometimes this deck doesn’t have Prismatic Lens on turn 3-4. The fact that otherwise bad decks sometimes pull off a flashy win with some luck is not terrible design, it’s part of the nature of a game built around random card draw.

You can’t draw out of bricking against a perfectly-curving Aggro deck if you don’t draw your card draw.

It’s a game of odds either way. You have greater odds of drawing into answers against a well-starting Aggro deck than most meme decks like Spell Paladin have of drawing into their horribly subpar wincon.

I’d agree that the feeling generated by losing to that type of deck is generally worse as the illusion of “I could’ve won if I’d drawn answers” is far more comforting than “I couldn’t win because he drew his uber play” but as long as those decks remain in bad/meme status overall, I see nothing wrong with them existing.

Just look at Highlander Mage. With LPG at 5 mana the deck was able to go nuts super early frequently enough for Blizz to stomp it squarely back into the ground. Spell Paladin (and most similar decks) cannot do so with enough frequency to cause even a small ripple in the meta.

The problem is this flashy win has no possible way to answer it when it goes off that’s the bad design part. They get their I win combo and no matter what deck you have there is no answer is the problem. Sure sometime you draw bad and that is fine that comes with a game of this nature. What isn’t fine is oh a High Roll BS you can’t really do anything about. If this was a 10 mana combo you have a lot of ways to actually play the game to beat it with every class either by racing it and winning before they can pull it off or by having a control answer but not at 4 mana.
