Most of the other tourists give them access to cards that are synergistic to the class.
There is maybe 1 Warlock card that Rogue could play.
Most of the warlock cards have synergy with the self damage archetype. Rogue doesnt want to take more damage than it has to because it typically has trouble with sustain compared to other classes. I wonder why they didnt make at least a couple warlock cards more desirable to play.
Maestra and party planner are both pretty expensive and slow.
Theoretically you could build a self damage cutlass deck.
They’ve been scared of rogue for a while now so they keep funneling incoherent and scope-limited packages its way. Still, the draw package and Sonya are versatile enough so rogue will probably find a way.
I think Rogue has enough tools to be viable, if not broken, in most Hearthstone seasons. You also have to remember that they have to be careful with Rogue cards because of Sonya. Rogue has a bit of the Priest thing going on in that there are some class cards that limit what they can give them going forward, although Rogue at least has the benefit of better class card synergy than Priest…and much better card generation/draw. The way things are looking though, this set might just polarize the game more into slow controllish decks (mainly druid and warrior heh) and more aggressive decks like paladin and Handlock, with the leftover classes scrambling to find a way to fit in.
Rogue cards are notoriously hard to evaluate, because they’re incredibly coupled.
For example serrated bone knife is a decent card in nearly any class when played by itself, but can enable insane combos and plays in rogue because it can be combined with preparation to give you effectively two extra mana for any card that turn.
A great deal of serrated bone knifes power lies in that synergy. Further still, coupling two cards is not all that effective in most classes that have low draw capability, but due to rogues ability to draw insane amounts of cards in one turn it’s power level increases further.
All this analysis can not be done in a vacuum. You have to know what other cards are in play and also what cards your opponents will likely run.
So I wouldn’t really say rogue has no synergies until at least 3 weeks into the expansion, if no crazy op rogue pops up then I will agree with you.
Also, I think you are looking at the wrong archetypes. All indicators point to otk being a huge part of the coming meta, and rogue already has Sonya which is an insane otk enabler. The fact that they printed tidepool pupil as a neutral and so low cost is almost certainly going to result in some kind of rogue otk deck. The obvious deck to try to work with tidepool pupil is Sonya rogue, which in the hands of an expert player is scary AF already.
Rebuild Sonya rogue around tidepool pupils and you probably got a game breaking deck in need of hot fix.
Imagine if rogue can consistently get the griftah six dmg amulet and combine it with sonya and pupil. Consistency the key here. Or the one mana drinks that deal two to random enemies or prep into three mana spells with sonya, maybe we got simething here and maybe not
I really dont like how much otk seems to be coming this xpac xD. Especially how early they seem to come down and how few cards are needed for some of these combos
The more otks there are, the worse Tess decks will be. No one cares if you have 10 cards in your hand when your dead on turn 7 lol
The rogue legendaries seems like garbage. 6 mana to discover a hero card? There are enough bad hero cards from the lich king expansion that getting a good one like tavish or cariel is not nearly consistent enough to be worth it.
Warlock cards are also not very good to played in rogue or they don’t serm to be good enough.
The 6 mana legendary thalt gives you kazalkusan treasures is just too slow and the treasures themself are mixed. Book of the dead is by far the one you want. But too many of the are trash.
perhaps you are right about the rogue legendaries being weak… but there are many pirates which could be useful and rogue is pretty good right now in wild mode that i play anyway.
But the fact you discover a new hero card is extremely important for cross class cards.
There’s a reason this was hard to do before. Once you become a different class, Tess becomes an absolute monster and starts replaying all your Rogue cards allowing for infinite Tess.
It’s likely too slow for Standard now, but there is a reason this hasn’t happened until now.
And I imagine these boards will see a few complaints once Rogues pull it off a few times.
Tess now might be power level 4, but with this change it jumps to an 8. It’s just playing the discover first is the problem.
And Rogue is long overdue for getting a high mana cost card that does nothing immediately and sets up value later. Lots of other classes have been paying this tax for years now.
Yeah, Dane will have a good time breaking Maestra on stream. Yes, she has some low rolls but some of them like Zuljin or Cariel are quite powerful.
Overall it seems like more tools in the RNG/Tess package, nothing OP broken but able to steal games with a blessing of RNGesus. And the Warlock drink gives a nice survival tool to Rogues.
Burgle in general has always paid that tax. Excavate only made it relevant because the rewards are so cheap
If there are a lot of otks the power level of tess is still going to drop significantly even while gaining hero cards. Value decks get wrecked by otks
Edit:
Normal tempo rogue decks cant afford set - up cards for late game because normal tempo rogue decks dont have the tools to play into the late game. Other classes that get those kind of cards have access to sustain and aoe that rogue does not. You either win the board or you die for the most part in those cases xD
