I am a returning players who played hearthstone from launch into the first few years… haven’t played in years, decided to give it a go. I am 8 games in with the free fel hunter deck, made a few modifications to it… have not won a single game. Every person it matches me vs is MUCH higher rank than me and has a constructed deck that will wafflestomp me with no issues. I have not even came close to winning a game.
what is wrong with the matchmaking system that it does not match me vs other low rank players? I do not remember hearthstone being like this. For a returning player wanting to give the game a try again… all it does is make me want to immediately quit. How does it make sense to match low ranked players vs much much higher ranked players with better decks? I dont understand how losing every game would give a new or returning player an experience that is enjoyable or even seems fair. If you are losing because you are inexperienced an are making bad plays, that is one thing, and should be the case… but, if you are losing because you are being matched vs high ranked players with far better decks that give you almost no chance to win… how is that fair at all?
How do you know which rank does your opponent have? It is not shown during the game. Also if you have bonus stars you are matched with MMR so rank is not the first thing to match when system look up for the game.
14 games 0 wins. it shows me their rank in the game. i am corporal, this last few people have been warlord or general… i have not won a single game, have 0 stars. They all have good built out decks, i have the free fel hunter one… how is this fair? Is this the new or returning player hearthstone experience?
Those rankings are part of a horde vs alliance event. They’re not indicative of skill, since the event has been going on for some time
As for everything else, yeah. Power creep and synergy creep mean if you’re not playing a netdeck, you’re probably toast.
Also, you may have missed it, but there’s a classic mode that’s just the original cards, that might be worth doing to finish dailies if you’re really looking to build up your collection.
16 games played. 0 wins. all vs constructed decks that i have 0 chance to win… bronze 0 stars… have not been able to win a single game… NOT ONE! How does this make players want to return to the game or give the game a try?
This does not make people want to buy packs… it tells you the game design is horrible and pay to win. Only makes you want to quit before you spend money because you instantly realize the game is almost all luck and paying for the best decks instead of strategy and skill.
Also, how high were you on ladder when you used to play? You are matched by MMR until you run out of stars and it could be that you just need to get your MMR down to where it is better for you. Also, if you climb to where you are out of stars it will become much easier as well.
climb to where i am out of stars??? i dont have any stars man. i havent played in years… literally 3-4 years how is it possible my previous MMR means anything? i came back to the came, selected a free deck called “ferocious Felrattlers” and jumped in matchmaking to try it. 18 games in row now, 0 wins.
How do i share my decklist?
Go to your collection, click on the deck, mouse over the name of the deck and a drop down menu should appear with “copy” as one of the options, then paste it into a post.
THe new player decks aren’t great so maybe a couple of the DH players here can help you make some cheap changes for better results.
Pretty sure everyone starts with one star, which means from bronze 10-5 you’re matched by MMR.
The good news is yours is dropping like a rock so you should get better matches soon.
Is it possible you’re making mistakes and that some of those games were winnable? As a returning player with a brand new deck, you probably don’t know what cards to play around and you certainly wouldn’t know how to properly mulligan for every matchup yet.
I don’t know anything about that specific DH deck you are using, but it’s possible that it isn’t particularly good. Matchups are a thing and your opponents might not all be using such high tier decks to beat you.
Lastly, as far as we know, you are matched based on stars and then rank after you run out. You said you don’t have any stars, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other players without stars that have access to tier decks.
I myself have very few stars in wild and almost never come across actual tier decks. A change of format might help you. Best of luck.
The free demon hunter deck looks like one of the weakest options if you arent having fun just quit otherwise look up fel demonhunter and deathrattle demonhunter and copy one of them you have some of the cards for both.
Yeah the free decks they give are extremely weak. If you enjoy demon hunter, you should run the fel demon hunter list from the meta list from the vicious syndicate website and then look at that info to see what your good and bad matchups are.
Remember,a big part of winning and being successful is knowing what the other meta decks are and how you should play against each one. That takes time to gather that knowledge and experience.
You shouldn’t expect to pickup a deck and just win if you don’t have a clue what you’re fighting.
you should be able to come back to the game. get one of the free decks, and at least win a few games with it. Why offer a deck you will lose 20+ games in a row with? what is the point?? I cant imagine what a player would feel if they have never played hearthstone… i have played enough in the past to read the deck and see what it is trying to do or possible win conditions… and i still cant win a single game.
what good does it do to lookup a list when you dont have any of the cards you need to make it? Remember, i am a returning player without any of the cards from the past 3 or 4 years.
Why do you feel you should just get a win handed to you though? You’re playing a game with a deck you don’t know how to pilot right out of the gate and then you’re facing decks that you have no clue what they do and thus don’t know how to beat them because you don’t know their strengths and weaknesses?
What you’re essentially saying is how come you can’t go into a cooking competition with a recipe you’ve never made before, just one someone gave you, and at least beat a few people who are using recipes they know how to use and have used before. And to top it off, the recipe you have is extremely basic and bland. It doesn’t make sense.
What we’re suggesting is get the better recipe, save up for the ingredients, and know your recipe in and out and then you’ll be winning.
I guarantee you I could take your deck list and win a few games with it simply because I know the other meta decks out there and how to exploit their weakness. That’s the knowledge you need to gain to start putting Ws in the win column.
yea i also never understood that particular argument…if you get frustrated you don´t throw money at the thing you get frustrated about, you quit. Especially as a beginner/returning player.
I think LoL just showcases really well how you can get big with a very fair f2p model, as it´s not frustrated customers that pay the money to get stronger, it´s satisfied players that want to actually support the product.
so you are saying it is my fault that i am a returning player and i should just lose for 100s of games till i know all the other decks , and probably drop at least $100 into cards, before i can win a game?
Silly me for expecting that someone who has given well over $1000 to the game in the past, understands the game fully, and is returning to give the new stuff a try, should be able to at least win one single game out of the past 25 i have played. i guess i am an idiot for assuming so.
That’s not at all what I said. You either want help and want the truth or you don’t.
The truth is the deck you’re using sucks, the optimal meta decks will destroy you, and if you want to win you’re going to need to slowly build a better deck AND learn all the meta decks and how to optimize your chances of beating them.
That’s not a lot to ask of someone who is looking at wanting to play a competitive game and win.
Again with your “gifted” or “handed” a win language… sigh. Consider what you are saying for a moment. A brand new player, or a returning player, should not have to play 100s a games or craft a meta deck and spend tons of money in order to get one or two wins. If you think that, well, you must either work for blizzard, or have some serious issues understanding things from a perspective other than that of an experienced player.
NOBODY, and i do mean NOBODY, wants to try out a game for the first time, or return to give a game a second try, and only lose for days and days verses players with all the cards and experience you do not have. It is a HORRIBLE way to design a game and matchmaking system. You will not convince me otherwise.
you should be able to win at least a game or two, with the basic free deck they give you, every 20 games or so.
